Yes Mart you are right - it is aimed specifically for getting in and out of (hence the low freeboard and self draining deck.) It is a compromise for the family outings and rod and lining with wet feet but for the few times I want to take the kids out skiing/ringoing or my missus out Mackeral fishing I reckon its worth it. Its meant to be real easy to flop into out of the sea without worrying about Bass spines or spears going through the tubes (not that it has happened in my RIB - just a worry as we push further out to more remote spots.) I am sure it will have limitations - but it looks like it is built like a tank with very useful hatches and pipes under deck for fuel and cables to keep deck clear. Like a friend of mine told me recently 'you can't take it with you James'

Was a good day even though it was a little rough but watching u work was very impressive couldn't believe how close u got to the stone that trip sold the C-ski to me, won't be long now

Hey Guys.
I've just returned from a nice hot week in Sharm, celebrating my 30th birthday. My girlfriend organised it in secret, even booking off my holiday leave for me at work. Three days before departure, I was told to pack my dive bag and some clothes and be ready to go. I had no idea of where I was going until we walked up to the check-in desk.
Seven hours later I was in 36deg sunshine, sat by the pool with a VIP upgrade. It was pretty damn awesome.
The hotel had its own private beach, with a 1km long pier extending out over the coral reef to reach the drop-off. The freediving was excellent, 2m straight down to 25m, crystal clear. Being a spearo, I couldn't resist poking around some holes, and was rewarded by coming face to face with a rather mean looking Morey eel. Out in the blue water, I was buzzed by a couple of large Trevelly, and saw some Barracuda in the distance.
I did a day SCUBA diving the SS Thistlegorm. This was a british supply ship, sunk in WW2 that went to the bottom with its cargo of war material. It was discoverd by Jaque Cousteau, and is one of Egypts premier dive sites. It is easy to see why.
Jumping in off the back of the dive boat, you look down, and there is the wreck 30m below. I was in a small group, just two Danish guys and the guide, so we go to go first, and had the wreck to ourselves for a while. Dive one was swimming around the outside of the ship. On and around the deck were the Bren gun carriers, boxes of ammunition, 16" naval shells, railway carraiges, two locomotives, and of course the bomb damage that sank the ship. After diving around the stern and the prop, we accended to the captains cabin and the bridge area.
After changing cylinders and a doze in the sun for an hour and a half, we embarked on dive two. This was penetrating the wreck and diving within the ships four holds. Now, this was something else. Everywhere you looked was amazing. Army lorries parked side by side, still with their windscreens and headlights, big Scammell trucks and trailers, crates of motorbikes, boxes of Lee Enfield rifles, .303 ammunition, more 4" shells, barbed wire coils and lots of wellington boots. I will definatly be going back again. I don't think you can take it all in with just two dives.

Is spearing allowed?Thanks Scott, it was an amazing holiday. The water temperature was 27deg, so I could have spent all day in it. Cold beer and fresh pizza lured me out of the water eventually. Sharm El Sheikh is located in a national park, so you're not allowed to do anything other than take pictures.

Exe club commitee needed
Hi all After reading big scots post time for me to put out my hand for help . For more than two years i have try-ed to keep the exe club going myself but i feel its time to call it a day or is it ??.If i could find four other people in the exe area willing to help me i may be able to keep it going failing this post i shall finish the club 31 dec Daveo

For a newbie starting out, DB is like hitting the jackpot. Everything from rigging a gun to local dive spots to finding the right suit and meeting up with local spearo's can be found in the thousands of threads readily available to anyone for free.
I honestly believe that if the BSA had a more active forum they would have more members but you often see posts on there going unanswered which might possibly put people off.
Personally Im going to join the LIC as I know they keep in contact with there members via email and its a very active well run club.

Dave I was not aware that the EXE club was battling mate and im really sorry to hear that. It would be a shame to see the club close and more so to see you throw the towel in after all that you have done for the club.

Hey Guys,
For what it's worth I will join in the crusade, even if it just means becoming a member-I live just over the water in Kenton.
I have to say that I have no real ambition when it comes to competitions but like the idea of meeting up with like minded people and learning from others peoples experiences.
I feel that I have gained a lot of helpful information from the South west DB members of which I am very grateful and there does seem like there is a core group of Spear fishers active in this area.
Let me know if I can be of any help at all and if you do manage to keep the club afloat (no pun intended) let me know when/if it is good to join.

Couldn't it just keep running on a more informal basis?
Down in Wessex we just meet up at the most suitable spot on a Tuesday evening (as decided by everyone on the Wessex thread beforehand). No one 'runs' the club, it's all more of a collective decision/dicussion on the days leading up to Tuesday, and centred mostly around the prevailing conditions. No one is officially a 'member' (attendance on the night confers membership), and no money changes hands. It's all more of an informal social event than anything else, with a time given to everyone to be out of the water by if they want to get to the pub in time for a few drinks and swap a few stories.
It's a good way for the local spearos to meet each other and sort out dive buddies for non-club days too - and it all seems to work quite well, especially at the beginning of the season.
If I spent more time down your way I would love to help - but sadly I don't get down there enough these days.
