South Devon Report 2011

Bish needs a alarm clock.I told him 4.30am this morning down at the harbour. I was there for 4am boat loaded and ready to go,4.40am no Bish. Tide waits for no man so off i went on my own. Could of done with a dive buddy today. He's on the transfer market.

You'll have a queue of hopefulls longer than the x factor auditions!

I did get up early BUT not that early. I went for a shore dive and got in around 7am. I eventually saw a decent bass ahead of me in a gulley, I dropped down and as I was in shooting range he just started to turn to swim away so I shot and felt the line tighten. I decided to let go of the gun and it disappeared. I dived back down but could not see it anywhere, I didnt think it could have gone that far and after about 5 or 10 mins of diving and searching I spotted the fish...phew. I thought it was going to be another Greenhorn story. I had just nicked its belly as you can see on the photo so I am glad I let go. He was bang on 7lb.

This proved to be the best of the catch and I did get cold fairly quick.

Yes mate, it is, a 7lb bass is a fish to be proud of and some people vote for the way it was caught or the experience of the spearo.
You managed to land a fish nicked in the gut, not many people get away with that.
Besides, if no one else enters it will be a one horse race.

Hi all whent for a lonely dive on saturday before sunday heavy SE wind:rcard
did manage 1 bass 3.5lb and 1 mullet 4.5lb the viz was down to 2 to 3 m at the best only mist 1 other bass similar size still a bit quiet down here

Hello Chaps,

My dear mother has just moved to Blagdon outside Paignton and I'll be popping down from Bristol lots of weekends and am planning to buy myself a speargun and get busy! As a North Cornwall lad I'm not familiar with the good spots on the S.Devon coast, could anyone offer me some advice on where to start (shore based). Many thanks!

Try the beaches in Torquay and Brixham. Meadfoot, Oddicombe Shoalstone etc.... or pop in to Venture Sports and speak to Anthomy. He'll point you in the right direction. Last night he pointed me in the direction of some scallops some crab and some lobster and then in the direction of the pub. He's a usefull chap :blackeye

All new to this forum business but was hoping some of you might be able to help me?

I was out on Wed (15th Jun) in Heybrook bay, Plymouth and my trusty nylon line of 3 years snapped on me taking the spear with it!! :head

If anyone was to find it could they give me a shout? A small reward would definately be deserved if I can get my hands back on my spear!

I was roughly 100meters out at high tide straight in the middle of the bay.

i think daveo said the viz was alright where he was in NS canada long way to travelroflrofl
