Topped my brown crab record this eve - 5lb 10oz!! Poked my head under a ledge looking for fish only to find this monster about 12ins from my face! Ended up unloading the gun, sticking the handle in behind him and out he came.

Would be having it for dinner tonight only I dont have a big enough pan!

Nice crab !!!I got two on friday but nowhere near that size how big can they grow to?I lost one on open sand which looked that big I was so mifft I have a massive pan now gust waiting for the lobbies n big crabs.Whats the smallest worth taking?

I think they can get to about 10lb?
This one was about 8.5lb

Wow! I thought Crab was a starter for a main course of Bass.....but these guys are definitely the main course! Bet those claws could remove a finger though! I am impressed!

Fortunately when they get that big they rarely seem to be able to close their claws flat, that said I would not want to test that!

Nice catch foxfish, I wonder how big they do grow? Certainly looked massive underwater!

Na but Maybe if i had a 6.5mm spear with a 16mm band and a french wishbone insted of my 7mm spear and 20mm bands, i would of made a head shot, but i think its cruel to shoot something in the head, thinking about it..... i think its cruel to shoot fish full stop.

Are you going to stop spearing because your view on shooting fish have change?

it's been a while since i was on the froum but it seems everyone is doing well in devon. i'm usually posting in the wales section but im going down too plymouth this weekend and i was just wondering if anyones had any luck around there? i know there are marks in and around torbay but iu would rather not travel that far for fish. is there anywhere withing half an hour of plymouth worth fishing?

Tried a couple of new places today looking for the elusive big turbot. None found today but i did find a few nice plaice instead upto 4lb13oz.

No,it was just easier to pick them all up and stand in front of the camera. I only have a 10 second timer on my camera. I did try to pick them up normal with my hands but couldnt do it in 10secs and get a decent pic.

What are going to find in the autumn when the big ones come inshore?

I am off to Croyde on Saturday for one week. I should get a free day on Wednesday. Has anyone dived this area or know of any spots nearby I could try? And does it favour a certain wind direction?

Any of advice would be much appreciated.

Try Meadfoot. Nice and easy to park and easy entry/exit.
Babbacombe is easy to access as well.

hi all, im going down to plymouth this weekend and have been told heybrookm bay is pretty good and only 20 mins away from where im staying. has anyone seen any fish there recently? what's the vis like?
also, what do o i need to sing up for to take crabs and lobsters and hat are the size/sex restrictions? another random question, how do you kill flatfish? i speared my first flatfish in pembrokshire in june. i had left my stringer at home by accident but i did have my kinfe. i put my knife between it's eyes and it stopped flapping about. i pulled out my spear and it imedietly flew straight out my hand and bolted off into the abyss. this wouldnt be a problem if i had my stringer, but jsut in case, where is there brain?
