I will probably be down that area (South Hams ) tomorrow ,I have just looked in Torbay (Meadfoot ) and it does not look too good ! I will look at webcams in the morning to see what the swell is like before deciding where exactly .
Hi all,
I started spearfishing about 3 months ago and got a lot of valuable info from here so thought id start sharing some vis reports;
been in today and yesterday about 10 miles east of plymouth, lots of small pollack and big wrasse about, and saw a few dogfish. Loads of spider crabs too, found 3 good sized ones for the pot.
Had an encounter with a very inquisitive seal yesterday. He thought our fins were fish and even bit the end of my mates fin. went back today with my gopro but he was nowhere to be seen.
now just need to find those illusive bass....

Hi mate, yes i took another decent male spider, but the vis was aweful for no fish other than wrasse, and a couple of v small Bass in a hole.
I heard you knobbled a decent pollock?
I was in at Wembury last night, the best vis of the year but still not amazing, touching 5m.
School of Bass seen, but they were very tetchy and i had to surface before i could get a shot off. A few dog fish seen, lots of pollock so i took a couple of bigger fish, and bait fish everywhere including sprats. Lots less spider crabs than before though, not sure where they have gone!
Just a very quick one as off to work,
Thurlestone rock & outer reef superb viz as far as eye can see. took 1 mullet no much else seen, except 2 small bass oh and a big spider ( in my sandwiches today )
Louis sheid very murky, big big wrasse
Next secret mark 30+ bass some takers but mostly schoolies, but quick. Too quick for me today.

Dived thurlestone today which is top secret
Nothing worth shooting.
Not a mullet or bass seen, feels like there is no fish this season so far....bit of a slow start, and the weather has been toilet!!!

My 'secret spot' is just a place I usually try when I'm down Thurlestone way, Didn't mean it literally to be secret just that I haven't ever seen anyone else there.
Just thought I'd post my findings & save you guys a wasted trip. :inlove

Yes they do ,in fact the fish do not even know where they are ,but I do !!! !! went in at hallsands today ,vis was a bit dissapointing 3-4 metres ,no fish seen at all but had a few spider crabs 1 at 5 pounds 5 oz and it already had a few lesser legs missing ,tried a controlled experiment and deliberately let a spider crab get a grip of my thumb to see how much power they have ,and it was not bad at all really !!!! Gorgeous weather though ....
First time in tonight after a few weeks waiting for the weather. Everything seemed to go wrong. Fell over on the rocks before I got in. Lost my torch. [If anyone finds one at Sandy Bay let me know!] Headed out to the place for Mullet. Missed a mullet with my first shot and lost my spear on the 75. Changed over to my 60 and continued to miss more mullet. Heard plenty of fish bang when I was approaching holes and overhangs. Then I snagged the spear on my 60 in a hole and guess what another spear lost. Decided to head back as I had nothing left to fire.
Apart from that it was a great dive.
Heading to Anthony's next to get some supplies.

Sandy bay Exmouth mate? I go that way often as the Marines patrol the range safety areas there!
Shame you had a bad day, ive not heard fish bang before, maybe my hood is too thick what does it sound like - is it a warning noise?

North I think I saw you today at Sandy Bay (think I even saw you fall in)? I was out with my brother when you turned up. I saw nothing but one lonely female spider and a chock load of dogfish... :head

Sorry to hear about you losing your gear mate, bummer! Out of interest, what does the above mean? I saw someone else posting about 'hearing' fish... could you enlighten me?

Just find it funny that every secret spot I've ever found seems to be known by other spearos! Especially some spots in the South Hams that I once thought were secret.
