South Devon Report 2012

First time in tonight after a few weeks waiting for the weather. Everything seemed to go wrong. Fell over on the rocks before I got in. Lost my torch. [If anyone finds one at Sandy Bay let me know!] Headed out to the place for Mullet. Missed a mullet with my first shot and lost my spear on the 75. Changed over to my 60 and continued to miss more mullet. Heard plenty of fish bang when I was approaching holes and overhangs. Then I snagged the spear on my 60 in a hole and guess what another spear lost. Decided to head back as I had nothing left to fire.
Apart from that it was a great dive.
Heading to Anthony's next to get some supplies.
Hope you have better luck than me guys.

viz was not great today. lots of fish about. sometimes when the viz is poor you hear the fish bang as they suddenly move out of your way.
Dan, good to hear your getting back in the water. we'll have to get a dive in soon.
Leo, saw three people as I was getting in. Did you have the torpedo float?

Yeah that was me my brother and a friend who's just started. Been going for about a year now in the area. Im still finding it pretty challenging managing to hit fish

Dived flat rock for a hour after work....got 2 mullet...

Bigbury is 1-2m max, terrible vis. Couldn't see the end of my gun at times. Knobbled a smaller mullet though, good enough for a BBQ tonight.

Saw 3 people sharing 2 wetsuits and one gun. Made me chuckle!

Hi all,

Went to the jungle today and wish I hadn't bothered (not really). Relaxing swim but really poor vis. Strangely lots of huge wrasse about in the shallows fish above 6lb, normally out deeper on the reef. Knocked some rust off the old bod so just have to wait for the season to get rocking!

As there were various bad vis reports coming out of Devon I headed East and tried a couple of spots in West Dorset. I managed to see the end of my gun now and then :hmm

Lots of viz down in Plymouth Matt.

Went in at sandy bay after work, it was like diving in skimmed milk.
The water temp was interesting 12deg on bottom and up to 15 on the surface.

Tried wembury few weeks ago but refused to pay the national trust car park fees.

Plymouth is a rubbish place to dive with very little fish life. Best try another spot!!!!

Thanks for those encouraging words ,I am planning on going to Bovisand tomorrow ,but I am quite "fish friendly " anyway ,(in other words I often come home empty handed ) ha ha !!

Hey I was at Budleigh a few days ago and bumped into the exe spearfishing club. If any of you read this please PM it would be cool to dive with you guys...

Report on Budleigh was really poor viz, about 1/2m on the sea floor n no fish but plenty of starfish that gave something interesting to look at..

Hi all went in on Thursday with dan and the viz was worse than Monday struggle to see the end of my 60cm gun frustrating dive again as I could hear the fish just could not get them at the end of my gun any way after trying like a demon to get some fish i manage to find a group of mullets around few stone and went home with 3 considering how bad the viz was i am happy with that result

I wouldn't bother with it tbh.
Best to find some guys local to you on deeper blue to meet up with if looking for dive buddies.

There's a BBQ on exmouth beach on 5th June being held by the RNLI if anyone's out and about...starts 4pm till into the late evening.

Never know when you mite need them....

Also dived south hams today.....no bass no mullet....few ok pollock about...saw a monster in the 10lb size category....ran out of breath...gutted lol
