Hi all, forgot to mention during the last batch of summer weather (2 weeks ago) that 3 basking shark and 2 sunfish seen in big bury bay (from a dive boat).
Can you eat sunfish? Would be a monster catch but not sure if i could bring myself to shoot one!

whilst walking over shaldon bridge(river teign) last night there was 2 blokes in a inflatable with spearguns taking it in turns doing like drift shooting. . . well not that i seen them shooting . but spearguns where in hand -- -
i always thought it was a no no . . but ive been wrong before i think

One half of Team CRAP took a trip to the lobster grounds today, but we swam right rather than the traditional left. It proved to be an excellent choice; lots of deep, steep sided gullies, overhangs and holes that we had never explored before. Viz was 8+m. Rowan had a brown crab in his bag soon enough, and I found a lobster that we hat to team up with to get out. He had a sweet hole under a deep ledge, but when I got level with it, I could see he had an escape route visable. Ro covered the back door, and I bullied the lobster with my spearshaft back towards its bolt-hole. When he made his escape, Ro grabbed it, almost getting nipped in the process.
With the tide turning, I went a bit deeper out. I swam down the length of a gully, seeing many small brown crabs until I came across a very large male edible. I sneaked up on him through the kelp, folded the flopper of my spearshaft down and used it as a hook to pull him out of his hole. I had one chance as if he got wedged, nothing would move him. Out he came, very angry, and was a bit bigger than I thought. With the lobster in the bag, I had to carry him. I swam back in as I had no more room to carry anything else. He weighed in at 4lb on the nose. The lobster was 2.5lb.

I have seen lots of Sunfish this year,2 just yesterday. One was well in side Plymouth sound. The first time i have seen one in so close. I did film one last year while diving for Plaice. Its considered bad luck to catch or kill one!
Got up early this morning to try and get myself a black bream. It was a boat dive to a spot where i have had them before.
My plan was to fire at nothing other than the bream. They spook so easy i didnt want to scare them off. Bream was the target so leave everything else. Plan didnt go to plan,the first fish i seen a decent mullet got it. Whoops i thought no more. The bream always hang out in the same spot. A slow approach,very quiet. I dived down the side of the drop off,stoping on the edge to peak down the side where they sit tight.Movement to my left in the kelp level with my head. Im holding on to the kelp with my left hand so the tide dont take me away. I raise my 100 gun and take aim at a fish im 50/50 on,is it a wrasse or bream? Then he moved again,its a bream and only 1.5m away from me. A good head shot stoned him. On another part of the reef i had a shoal of about 10 come in but just out of range for my 100 gun. At the same time a big shoal of mullet was buzzing around me and bass mixed in up to 4lb. One almost self speared himself he came that close but i held off the trigger in the hope the bream would come closer,which they didnt and the bass lived to see another day.
I did take another mullet on the swim back to the boat.
I moved off to another spot where i spent a lot of time scanning the ground with the fishfinder looking for new plaice ground.
I did get in and try a few spots for plaice but these were spots i have dived before. I ended up with 5 plaice and 1 flounder.
Met up with 2 other spearos on my way home,goingtothecoast and googlyfloogly,how did you get on guys?

Had a night dive on Wednesday saw plenty of flatties and pollack but no bass. Not been able to get in much so far this season and the freezer is empty ;(

Hi all, been to Hope today, viz was good with the offshore breeze. Saw a large flounder :wave (thanks Nick) did a decent dive to get down and he saw me coming and spooked - gutted!
Took a smallish bass and a good pollock.
\It was up at high tide and no fish seen in gullies and the only bass seen was one small school over the sand when i was sat on the bottom. Glad i made that long shot count - the wife loves bass on the BBQ!
Hoping to head out again tonight or tomorrow while the sun shines!

Didn't go to finnygook in the end but did manage a high tide dive near Plymouth. Vis was excellent perhaps too good, saw plenty of wrasse and small pollack and missed a couple of big bass gutted, think its time for new rubbers... Or maybe my aim isn't what it was.
Camped on the beach Friday night so took the torch, lots of flatties. Took a sole and a couple flounder.got in again early this morning, the easterly ruined the viz. Two small but edible bass taken and a plaice which was 1.4kilo. All got eaten throughout the day on the beach BUT dunno what Podge loves about the flatties 
I won't bother eating it again....too much mercury perhaps ;-)

Great crab Trelawneydiver I've only ever got spiders I must try harder.Another stunning catch there shiny1 what a selection Olympics for you next !!. Can you see flatys on the fish finder I would of though not unless they move?But thinking about it they may be on the bottom but are flat and will give a great reflection /return for the FF.?
Thought I'd finally getting round to posting a catch report. Spearfishing this year has taken a back seat as buying a house (get the keys Wednesday) and marriage preparations (23rd August) have taken priority. When I have managed to get in at my favourite local spots in Torbay the big fish haven't been around like they were last year. Biggest bass so far this year had been 4.5 and mullet 4 so pretty disappointing.
In light of this I've been switching to the shellfish and managed to locate a decent lobster hole. Managed to wrestle the 6lber out of there and then in the same place the week after two lobsters out of the same hole which I've never experienced before. Turned out it was one male and one female about to moult. I didn't weigh them but I think both were over 4lbs. I've never eaten so much lobster in my life. Pictures are rubbish but they are easier to upload off my mobile.
As for the sunfish I saw my first one in the mouth of the River Dart on Thursday evening. I was trying to get it in the landing net to have a closer look and get some pictures but they can move pretty quick when they want to! Didn't manage to get a decent photo of it but great to see.
Glad to see other people are managing to shoot some decent fish. I would love to shoot a bream like that. Keep up the good work.
