Spearing/clarity report 2010

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Nice, zman. I'm sure you could have filled your stringer had you been USING A GUN.

Madison lakes are in full diatom bloom. Clear-water is a couple weeks away.

Once again, Ted is right. :head

I'm starting to get a pain in my elbow- kind of like tennis elbow. i think it comes from holding the back of the sling tight with 3-finger mitts on. I'm almost thinking of going back to a gun just to have a trigger again- and relieve the pressure on my elbow.

Man, getting old sucks. :crutch

Car problem today , but line and hook friends ride to Lake Geneva..great vis but nothing to shoot at......I hate those large mouth basses lurking around me..Off to FL tomorrow

Golden Lake water temp 55F.
Lake Geneva... 48F.
Good visibility.
( 4 days ago Lake Nagawicka... 46F)

Tass and I went to Wood Lake in Marquette county yesterday (4-28-10). It was kind of a last minute thing, that's why we didn't post anything. The water temp was 55-56 and the fish are in. I ended up with 13 (1 perch, 3 crappie and 9 bluegills/sunfish) Tass had more than me, but I'm not sure of what. Vis was decent- I'd say 10-12 feet. There were also a lot of WALLEYE with fat bellys, same with the Bass. Saw lots of small Hammers (northern pike-small) and a few medium ones.

This is the 1st time either one of us has speared this year. It's a good start!

I think I shot 12 bluegill/sunfish, 1 crappie, 2 perch and a sucker. The garden will grow good this year with all of the scraps. It was great to get out. The wind was out of the South and we were on the North end, so it was a bit cloudy. I am hoping to get out another time before Monday somewhere if the wind dies. I am leaving to Washington State for a month.

Went to Lake Waubesa, just south of Madison. It's opening fishing weekend for 'Hook and Line' fisherman. We decided to try it anyways. The vis varied from a few feet to about 10 feet. Water temp was 58 on average. There were lots of fish in the weeds! I ended up with 22, Tass around the same and I think Jon had 24. It was a good day to be in the water, as it is any day. Hope to get out again later this week.

Looks like you all had a great day!

I hope to get out this week. I got my wetsuit on Saturday and some other things I can't wait to try out too.

I do have to get some work done first. Being self employed is great for the freedom, but requires self discipline too if I want to pay the bills.

Dan

I ended up shooting 4 blue gill (The largest 9.5"), 7 Perch (Largest 10.75") and 11 Crappie (Largest 11.5") There were Lots of fish in there, the vis varied.

Heading to Crystal Lake in Marquette Co. Will post the conditions and If I get any fish.

Crystal Lake vis was 5-8 ft. water temp 60 degrees. Lots of small fish. some ok sized Crappies. Not the Great vis it had 3 years ago. But that was also first week in June. I didn't see any fish worth shooting

It was my first day out this year. First time using a 5mm open cell suit. First time with a speargun instead of a polespear. I also tried out two new sets of long fins.

The gun was a lot of fun and more productive than I thought it would be. Reloading was getting to be second nature by the end of the day (well it did improve considerably).

It took me a while to play with the fins etc., but I still had a productive day .............. ended up with 13 fish. The largest Crappie was 10 inches and the largest pumpkinseed was 7 1/2 inches.

I got the Pumpkinseeds at Fenner lake. Vis was about 10 feet. It was a very windy day, but the storms held off tell I was home.

That's a little bugger of a lake. Good to see it didn't get winter killed, consider the snow we've had the past two years. Nice work. Welcome to the dark side of gun ownership.

Fenner Lake, I was considering that one today! Tass and I have been talking about checking it out. How was the vis?

Nice catch!

The Vis was fairly good. 10 - 12 feet. There are a lot of fish. I saw several Northerns. There were a few descent perch, but I missed every one. They were longer shots and they are a rather small target. I really wanted to bring at least one home.

Dan

80% chance I will be heading to the NorthEAST side of Waubesa today around 4:30ish. Just letting everyone know, in case you're in the area.

There is a Park there. There is no Launch, only Zuul :)

I went to that area - last year and got lots of fishes
