Spearing/clarity report 2011

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I have a beard to go with it- you just can't see it under the wetsuit hood.
Not doing porn, just getting ready for ski season.

I am jealous. They won't let us grow a beard at work. Plus, now that I'm on the Briggsville FD, I can't even grow a Goatee.

I just want to grow a BEARD!!!! :friday

I went out for a bike ride today to check out the lakes. Mendota is WIDE open and has pretty decent vis. The water is so cold right now that I doubt you'd find many fish for spearing; however, it might be a good time to look for anchors and other junk that people loose over the summer time.

I also biked past Lake Monona and it is wide open and has some decent vis as well. I know that the outlet is off- I checked- but, they still put up the floating wooden fence to keep snowmobiles away from the entrance to it. I don't know if this means they might use it this winter, or it's just something they need to do because they always have. I also saw that the city did a lot of work to B.B. Clark park- which is right next to the outlet. They have put in some very fancy limestone steps that go right to the water and must be designed for launching canoes and kayaks. Of course, it also makes a nice entry point for divers so I'm not complaining. If I wasn't laid up with the broken foot I might give it a shot over the holidays. I don't remember the last time the lakes were so wide open this late into the year.

I just got out of the water about an hour ago. Vis was around 5'-10' and the temp was 34F degrees. The lake was wide open with no ice in sight. This was also the first time I've been able to do anything since I broke my toe- so I was happy just to be back in the water.

Things sure looked a lot clearer last week, but with all of the wind and rain I guess I can't complain. The outlet was not on, but I did see fish hiding in the weeds. You need a short gun to get them, and they are pretty skittish. All I had with me was my 75cm and that was a bit too long for the vis we had today. A shorter gun or waiting for a better day and I bet you could get a decent stringer of panfish. I didn't see any carp or musky.

The city also re-did the park and built a set of stairs for launching canoes and kayaks. It also happens to make a nice entry point for diving.
