Here's the video of the one I did take home...

Nice vid mate. Did you walk under a railway bridge to get to the spot? If so walk to the corner on your right. Very fishy on HW.

Under a railway bridge? No we didn't and I'm afraid I've been sworn to secrecy as to this location. I can say it was on the south of the Llyn.

porth something cant remember now!ope you all like it took yonks to sort n get on you tube !hopefully i will see more fish next time.Foxfish or mods could you seta link up for me to you tube ta.nice mullet ive never seen so many !

Yes, LLanberis. Ooops, I've let the cat out of the bag.

Am I being a bit dumb here? I can't find Ian's video.

try ,the dark side llyn ,click on my name n 3 come up.ooops go to you tube 1st!

Aye yes, got it. Amazing viz, there's not been too many days like that this year.

Ian, do you do all of your hunting from the surface (no breath hold)?

no not at all why hold ya breath in 3-4 foot of water i like hunting in the very shallows im just as happy at 6-10m but dont go any deeper at moment .breath holds crap anyway at mo.i wont to pair up if im going deep constanly. I need to find some new spots aswell.

I do like a bit of a mooch about in the shallows myself but never really had any luck. To be honest, from what I've been told you'd be pretty hard pushed to get much beyond 10m around Wales anyway. I certainly haven't.

Most of my fish come from the shallows. 0.5 -3m most of the time. I've got one productive spot that's up to 8ish on a high. I love hunting through the weed. Mainly for solitary fish. I've not really seen many schools this close in anyway.

I'm glad I made the effort last weekend, it looks like were getting a bit of hurricane Sandy overspill this week. Pretty definite that this weekend will be blown out.

Gutted.. 2weeks ago viz was v.poor couldn't make last w/e when it was apparently ace (so envious) and this w/e will be blown out?!?!? Noooooooooo!

For me, this is the first year I've really done any consistent shallow water spearing.

I've found sitting on the bottom, in 4 to 7 feet of water the most productive - I haven't shot a single shallow water fish from the surface this year.

With a nice amount of weight on, I'm happy on the bottom for getting close to 2 minutes - I tend to see most fish around the 1:15+ mark.

I've absolutely loved it, so much so that from July onwards I ditched all of my deeper marks that I've fished for years in favour of my new found shallow spots.

I tend to be a little more conservative with my bottom times, more like 0:45 - 1:15 min down, 1.5 - 2 min up, typically in up to 6-7m, usually shallower. I reckon I get most fish in the first 30-40 seconds.

My last three bass were shot from above in the shallows. It was dusk and all of them were resting in the weed. None of them had anything in their stomachs. Not sure if they were resting or waiting in ambush. Infact since mid to late August this is the only place I've seen any.

Paul, there are some good mullet in that shoal! Did you get up to the Farnes by any chance?

Forgive me if this sounds abit philosophical but don't set out to dive to a certain depth; dive to where the fish are and where you feel comfortable.

I also think people forget the importance of how you appear in the water. I don't think being stealthy (i.e. being draped in seaweed) is important but assuming a less imposing figure and limiting abrupt movement is a key factor in allowing fish to present themselves for a shot.

Daf,

Yes, there were plenty of decent sized mullet about, with hind sight and watching the video back I wonder if I could've nailed 2 with one shot?

Yep, I did the farnes, but it was blown out with terrible vis, but the seals did their bit, so enjoyable none the less.

The enquiry about depth wasn't meant like that, I don't have any preconceived ideas about where one should be except that I'm normally on the bottom or lurking just under the surface. I think it's always useful to understand other peoples technique.

I totally agree with your comment about attitude rather than appearance. I (and I'm sure others) have been in the water where the fish can clearly see you and they come to investigate (particularly bass), so being visible isn't necessarily a problem.
