The Llyn last week!

Popped down to the Llyn last Wednesday & Thursday (7th and 8th) - didn't have my gun with me but thought I'd give a heads up on what I saw!

Porth Iago looked nice....



but the water looked like....



I walked round the cliffs from Poth Iago to Porth Oer (Whistling Sands), the water was the same all the way round.

I also went to Porth Dinllean which was a totally different story! There was a super low tide! I've never seen it so far out!



...and the viz was brilliant! I clambered down the rocks by the lifeboat station and the water was crystal! For good measure, there was a dog fish lazily cruising around the rocks which was really nice to see, water was about 2m and I could see it perfectly, it even came right up to the surface!

Sounds lovely! I was there with my girlfriend, we had the whole beach to ourselves for two days running! He he!

Anyway... have you had any good spearing down on the Llyn yet? It's been warm and still in Shropshire, I'm hoping it's improved the viz a bit down on the coast! Or is there still algae everywhere?

I've rarely speared on the Llyn, we have all the decent fishing I could need on my doorstep. Now I work in Caernarfon I might give it a go on the odd evening. The vis was really good over the weekend but I doubt it will last

I was thinking of heading down next weekend with a mate for a whole weekend of spearing, crabbing and fishing.

I'll wait and see what the weather does though! It's about a 300 mile round trip for me so I don't want to waste it!

Went in tonight , vis was 2-3m . saw some bass and a couple of mullet , had 3 shots , missed 2:head, got this one though - at 6lb8oz.

Can I ask what type of gun that is? I've never seen one like that for sale, I'm presuming it costs lots of £££'s?

Hi that's a great fish!! you must be very happy!!

Did you go in Anglesey or the Lleyn? Only reason I ask is that I'm hopefully heading down to dive next monday evening and would rather go to Anglesey if there is a chance of fish rather than down as far as the lleyn.

The fish was shot on the Anglesey coast - to be honest with you , i dont think it would make much difference if you went down the lleyn or on anglesey - if you know where to look the fish are around now!

Debrovnik : This is a home made gun , it only cost a trigger mech , some rigging gear and rubber , a RA shaft , and a jar of elbow grease!! it is a 90cm gun with a midhandle - IDEAL for shooting around the UK.
PM me if you want more info about dimensions,building etc.

Pastor: i really need to cut the shaft down i think! do i just cut with a hack and shape with a file??

I think you'll need a cobalt drill and a jig to re drill that, it's spring steel or something else mega tough. The tip should be easy enough to cold grind into shape again, I doubt a file would touch it.

Jeeez i cant remember what happened an hour ago let alone 8.15am!
possibly... - i was late this morn ,usually in by 8 , were you in the rover?
I have a 16" grinding wheel at work i could use to grind the tip. and ill have to take care with the flopper pivot - its gonna have to come closer though!
Brother went in tonight and saw some fish ! ... if im easy tomorrow night ill be going in or high water [around 8pm ish] in the usual place if you want to join! Hope to get a couple in over the weekend also!

I won't be able to manage tonight but certainly over the weekend I should be able to squeeze a dip in, let me know.

Vis was 2-3 m tonight , went with my brother tomed , i didnt see any bass or mullet , tom speared two nice bass , 4lb4oz and 3lb8oz . I shot a nice flounder and bagged a huge spider , it's on the boil as i type
wind looks good for the next few days staying easterly , great!

Thanks to you both (heds and pastor) I've now got to work monday and there doesn't lookas tho there is going to be any let up later on in the week, got to go to a family wedding next weekend so thst me scuppered for a week at least. god this is turning into a right winge so I'll stop now. Lovely fish HED. That picture would make a great Avator image. Funny how photos can be deceptive, flicking through Sea Angler magazine, you just can't size a fish from a photo.. I thought that looked about 12lb, going by Glowworm's 11lber last week.

Interesting gun -- mid-handles seem to be quite a thing in North Wales. Maybe we need to get you guys come down & show us their advantages. Always impressed when somebody makes something like that. Very cool.

BTW Hope the mask is working out for you.

It's just the fish's perspective in relation with the size of me that makes it look big i think - either that , or - my scales are wrong , or - glowworm's lying about his 11 pounderroflroflrofl [only kidding glowworm!]
I would really struggle to go back to my rearhandle excaliber 100cm now after starting the season with my new gun!
Mask is working great!! i had to toothpaste it a bit then it's not steamed once - and it doesnt press on my forehead like my old one did.
