hmm.. going off to change in the bush was always an option, albiet buggy and prickly. i don't LIKE to, but when diving with company of opposite sex (generally 99.8% of the time) or worrying about freezing, it's a neccessary evil.

When I was at the SETT, at one point my buddy 'escaped' from his speedos. I don't think he knew that I saw, and I had to stop myself from laughing because I was about to dive and didn't want to lose too much air.

I've wondered about how many people aren't wearing anything under their wetsuits, but never came out and asked. It sounds like showering in the locker room; it embarrasses everyone until someone out and does it, then it's not a big deal.
That's happened in my swim classes. I was in waterpolo and swimming, and we all showered naked and didn't think anything of it. The college swimmers are different and tend to be a bit on the shy side. That's easily solved. I go ahead and strip down and shower, and before long, everyone else is, too.

Things must have changed some how in the last decades. I can't imagine athletes being shy about nudity.

How did these college swimmers shower before you set the example?

Showering is not mandatory in many schools, so many people simply go without. In the case of the swim class, some of the students don't even know how to swim in the beginning, and may have never been members of a sports team. They tend to shower in their bathing suits, looking furtively over their shoulders. I've never found that to be an effective method.

There's something unconfessably sexy in this discussion: makes me remember that in italian comedy movies of the 70's there was always a scene with someone peeping through a hole in the wall while the starring actress was taking a shower...

But seriously: did any of you guys really damage the wetsuit because wearing a speedo under it?

I go commando and use a towel to change on the beach, all the shampoo/conditioner in the sui, really makes it worth your while

I wear speedos, started to when i was a young pup surfing and i used to wear them to stop chafing :waterwork :waterwork :waterwork under my weetie and have worn them ever since.

One the old towl around thing,

I was playing a game of water polo about 15 years ago in front of about 300 people, I was getting changed on the pool deck and had a towl around my waste just as i was going to put on my speedos a team mate ripped the towl of leaving me Naked infront of the crowd.

I do what ever is right for the situation, sometimes commando and sometimes not, don´t realy have a fixed oppinion on it but the "speedos" can annoy sometimes but then again so can other "stuff" hanging from the male body, to the issue of damage, I have never noticed any damage inside my suit from speedos, but then again I don´t change into speedos when I suit up, just jump inn with my boxers actually either way, youre gonna end up naked at some stage.

This use of a towel thing fascinates me. I'm on my boat, with no one but other guys around, and I get naked to put the suit on and then again when I get it off. But I've noticed that a lot of the younger guys still use a towel as if they were on a public beach.

Why the modesty? Are they afraid of my intentions? Maybe they never participated in a team sport where all the guys were naked in the locker room and in the shower together?

Bill maybe thay did participate in team sports and thats why they are nervous. Seriuosly the pool I go to has communal showers so you have to keep modesty at bay there. At the beach/ dive site I have my trusty van to get changed in but have being using shorts up to know. Have seen some speedo type shorts that may suit in hydrodynamics and not pose the problems assoc with the budgie smugglers.
