Hi Rob, did you get in?
Re spots - to be honest I get on best at my most regular spot (Brighton) - don't think that it has more fish than anywhere else, just that I know it better.
Cheers Nick

do you think brighton will be good on sunday, the wind is forecast to drop back to almost nothing

I find the viz a bit of a mystery, though given the strong winds we've had and the big tides (~6m at Brighton for the next few days) my guess is that it will be very bad viz. only one way to find out though

Jumped in today. Not very good viz but a nice dive nonetheless. Masses of bait fish about and I missed a big mullet. Just not enough viz and worse as you got deeper. Funny how some marks tend to get clearer the deeper you go whilst others get worse.

Jumped in again today. Worse viz than yesterday. Managed to see the tail of a decent mullet but that's it. Still, another nice swim.

Unlucky with the mullet David...though I'm slightly jealous that you're seeing the silvers - I went in five times in Devon last week and only saw one small bass...

In the swamp I'm diving in, mullet are a more greeny colour! Seriously I'm hunting shadows if that helps you feel better! Nice effort Nick getting in despite lack of fish. Not sure I'm going to get another chance to get in over the next couple of weeks.... So hopefully the fish are still in. The mackerel are clearly still in.

Hello... Novice freediver...looking for lessons in Brighton UK ...Any ideas please =)

Ed, do you recognise this new member!!!!!! Hear you've been in with her this week. I'm not going to get dressed in her van again, especially when she insists on closing the door!!!!!
P.S I'm not the one on her side. Thank you

Ha! Well in fact I know both of those ladies very well!

In fact two of us were in the water last weekend in South Devon where Jim bagged a mullet and a John Dory.

The weather was lousy, it was windy and raining but I had taken anti-sickness. Because of the rubbish conditions and moving house + job I wasn't expecting much. However one one of the first handfull of dives I found myself surrounded by a shoal of mullet. I am pretty undecided about how much I like shooting/eating them so I figured I'd wait to see what happened rather than popping the first one to swim past. After a bit I spotted a bassy outline and managed to get the gun on him. I met a bit more resistance than expected on the way to the surface and realised it was a decent-sized fish. Those mullet must have been huge!

PB bass for me by 2oz at 5lb 2Oz. It was delicious.

Gonna sample the Brighton waves tomorrow.

The season isn't dead yet!

Ed.

Had 3 last week 1st time in for Month, water still warm just need a bit of settled weather, N winds so might try after nights thurs/fri. Hoping for some decent size to be round, taken plenty this year but nothing near PB. Did miss 8lb + still haunts me.
Well done mate on your PB

Hi Gill, As far as I know there isn't a freedive tuition in Brighton, but I'm thinking of setting up a group. In terms of lessons, I went to Ian Donald at Freedive UK in Cornwall. He's a pretty laid back guy, good for beginners if you want something UK based. Let me know if you want to hook up in Brighton once you're trained, I go spearing in this area sometimes.
All the best, Tom
