Pah! I bet your...and I quote..."double super-extra secret spot" is nowhere near as good as my "Triple Super Classified Double Extra Top Secret Spot" :)

Cracking fish Ed but..."Its the only time I've ever wished for a shorter gun" really? I need to scope out some of your extra secret spots :)

Well, it's just that usually I find rubbish viz and no fish........ So i can't blame the gun! This was really odd because there was rubbish viz and loads of fish.

Barnacle boy, your triple secret spot sounds savage, I'd love to try it!

I've normally found that poor viz means poor number of fish...but your spot is sounds different. Maybe low viz caused by chalk rather than silt/bloom is the difference ;)

Hi guys, new to spearfishing and trying to find a suitable gun to buy to spear around Brighton, can anyone recommend one please? Was hoping to spend around £60.

Also is it generally best to go out at low tide for the piers?
Cheers
Sam

Hi Chaps,

Just wanted to introduce myself - in the process of moving from Devon to the New Forest. Will be working in Southampton so intend to have a poke around the Sussex coast now and then.

Spearoeddy - hopefully we can catch up soon for a bit of a dive. I've just booked the removal van for next Friday so maybe, just maybe the boss will let me off for a bit of aquatic mischief.

Looking forward to exploring new waters. South Devon has turned its back on me... The fish in Salcombe have been hiding I think, they don't seem to realise they're running out of chances to get killed by me!

Cheers all,

Ross

Looking forward to it mate, even though your presence on a dive brings me the worst luck possible for some unknown reason! The fish of the Sussex coastline are quivering.

Ed.

Hi,

Got in last Wednesday with an especially short (but old) gun. I couldn't see the end of it (viz < 45cm). Gave it a few dives but there wasn't much hope. Then the gun broke and I drove home for an hour and a half swearing.

Had a better dive on the weekend in South Devon with rossco and spearojim. Had a big day but only managed 2 bass to 4lb (Jim) along with a mullet and a flounder a piece for Ross and I. We did however land a couple of the biggest spiders I've ever seen. It seems to be a good time for them coz they were packed with meat. I've occasionally found them a bit empty!

Here's hoping this rain and wind settles for the weekend to give us a chance of a dive around here.

Ed.

Yeah, good weekend. Nice to have the chance to wave farewell to South Devon for the next while. We totally should have shot Jim and taken his fish though!

Fingers crossed for weekend weather...

Hi Guys

I currently live in the south downs and im looking to do some spear fishing on south coast. Doing my research I see brighton newhaven and Bognor rocks could be worth a hit. I have all my own kit and have been a few times in cornwall with a friend. Im looking for someone to take me out once on the south and show me the ropes. Would anyone be happy to go for a spear sat?

I'm probably heading to South Devon on Sat morning leaving Petersfield at 6am, let me know if you're interested

Damn! Just seen this message. Are you going for the day? Petersfield is not far from me would have been keen!

Thanks to SpearoEd for taking me to both his secret and "supersecret" spear spots this weekend...

They sucked ass.

(Winking smiley or something if I new how!)

What you are hearing there is the frustration at Ross' blank against my mighty (small) bass from the weekend.

There may also have been a tinge of regret due to me misreading the strong currents which resulted in scary consequences and a lot of time spent hanging on in sea flowing like a river.

What can I say, the conditions are complex but I got a fish!

I'm pretty sure that that bass must have been swimming along blindly through the muddy water and just impaled itself on the point of your spear.

No way you actually saw it.

Dorset this weekend I think.

Actually, I'd best be careful. I'm getting dangerously close to sounding like I'm insulting "Sussex" water.

Not my intention at all. Just want to insult Ed!
