Eric is modest about his mates abilities, Trotsky ( who caught the fish) is one of the best divers in the country. I was in a boat a 100m away and we could not get in the water as the tide was to strong. I did manager to catch a couple when the tide slackened a bit, but whilst still deep and dark it was still a lot easier.

Went in near Bognor this afternoon , vis' was poor ( 2m + ) , temp' around 12* .
Saw two decent bass and a few schoolies , missed one of the bass from near point-blank range ( ahh crap ) .
Did see a nice sting-ray , about 700-800mm across the wings , followed it around for awhile before it disappeared into the gloom .
I thought they were summer visitors ?
Few doggies around and garfish too , things are livening up !

Yeah Kev , fished the outer reef from a kayak .
Went again today , vis' was a little better but saw fewer fish , took one bass just over 1kg , some schoolies and garfish about .

The Hall of Fame has had its latest update. If you haven't looked lately there are some great new entries with pictures and stories aplenty. New featured catch is a Halibut, no less. http://forums.deeperblue.com/spearo-board/82043-deeper-blue-spearfishing-hall-fame.html

Some members, however, have been missing out by falling foul of the rules. Make sure you take pictures and most importantly weigh your catch then with a little luck and some skill you too could join the ranks of the famous Hall of Fame DB spearo's.

Hi Clive, weather is looking good. Bream and pollack have arrived and so have the big Bass.

we aim to be in the water by 8am, the comp will finish at 2pm ( what ever time we start.)

Please bring a boat if you have one, as we are expecting a good turn out.

The Sussex National is on this Saturday at Bognor, we have had several divers in the water today and all reported viz at between 8 and 15ft despite rough seas, the next two days are forecast calm with shortening tides so expect good viz on the day. To put more emphasise on the new rules this year regarding fish, a top quality gun has been given to us by European Spearfishing Supplies for the diver with the most amount of species on the day, in the event of a draw the highest placed diver will win. Many other prizes have been donated by our sponsors so bring plenty of change on the day for the raffle and car park. Just to wet your appetite one of the divers scouting today saw two bass under one ledge in fine condition and both over ten pounds, quite a sight with no gun in your hand. Don't forget if you have a boat please bring it, boat owners are free in the comp but we will be asking them for a five pound donation for the guy on the ramp who is opening up early for us.
The Sussex Spearfishing Club look forward to diving with you on the day.

Cheers. Have to say that looking out of my window in Brighton at the moment ( 0938) there is a thick mist.

Please do not forget that BSA rules stipulate that you must have a compass ( carried with you) during the comp.

Hi guys, I left my weightbelt lying on boat ramp at the top near the jet ski hut when we were pushing the boats back up. It is a Cressi webbing belt with an Omer Marco Bardi stringer attachment and Seatec weight vest attachment on. It also has a wire loop drilled into the rear weight for a float line clip:head:head:head:head:head
I am really p!$$ed off with myself as my belt was organised just right and I now need to source it all again.
Can you pass this message around to the Sussex crew or anyone who may come to hear of it's whereabouts.

hey guys, thanks for a good comp. As you know it was the first comp I'd done since 2006, and I was knackered, but still, it was good to catch up with old friends! See you at Ringstead.

Sorry about the delay I left for a week in the South of France straight after the dive we have your weight belt here, can you get by untill Ringstead or can we get it to you some how, it a bit heavy to post.

A nice dive yesterday , vis' wasn't great but lots of fish seen , a few different species too , which I always enjoy .
I saw bass , lots of schoolies and a few larger ones .
Pollack , mostly small .
Lots of mackerel .
Lots of gar's .
Mullet , but nothing big .
A medium sized dogfish .
One cuttlefish .
One huge stingray .
Fished for nine or ten hours ( god I'm so unfit/old ) and ended the day with three bass , two mackerel and a garfish .
Met two other spearos , one on a red kayak , who had a nice big crab , and one on a divehunter who had some nice bass ( one very nice , double figures ? ) Anyone on here ?
The highlight for me was the stingray , to come across such a big animal in only two metres of water was incredible . Does anyone know why they come into such shallow water ? Breeding or feeding maybe .
The wingspan on this one was a bit wider than my gun ( 900mm ) , it seemed to be unconcerned by my presence , no tail-barb threat display or swimming away . I did look at it and think I wish you were a turbot though :) .
