Hi Guys has any one shore dived Brighton or Newhaven lately ? i took a trip to Newhaven yesterday to have a look and water had patches of dark brown, is the may bloom here?

Big Bass Weekend
Just a few lines to tell you about some big bass caught by the Sussex Lads at the week end. We started fishing on the Kingmeer 6 miles off Worthing early Saturday Morning I decide to stay in the boat to give my dive mate Trotsky cover as the wind was blowing at force 5 out of the east making it almost impossible to hold the down going tide. Trotsky first dive was in 47 ft of water he came up next to the boat to tell me the viz was only 5ft and also handed me a 10 lb bass over the side that had been laying in a crack on top of the rock he had dived on.
We opted for a piece of ground in 40ft of water off Littlehamton on Sunday despite the bad forecast, much to our surprise the viz was about 4 mts. I never saw them but on my first dive a shoal of very large bass banged away from me like a train leaving a station. A few dives later I was finning gently over a small ridge to find myself in the entrance to a big cave right in the middle of which a large bass was looking at me head on. As I debated taking the head on shot the fish turned slightly and the spear went in just behind the eye for a kill shot, the 10. 5 lb fish came out without a movement and was soon on my buoy. Five dives later I was looking between two boulders at a ledge which two bass were sheltering under, they were deceptive and looked about 6 lbs so I tried to line the pair of them up,
the spear from my 90 went in through the first ones gill and lodged in it,s brain at full range. I left it down after attaching it to my buoy line and was most surprised to find it was 11.5 lbs when I recovered it next dive.
In the mean time some of our clubs members fished the Kingmeer again with one of them taking a bass of 14 lbs 10oz. It is nice to see the big bass back as we had a bit of a shortage last season.

wow eric that sounds like a great dive, i have not seen a bas over 10lb since april last year, any pics at all?????
gunna try an early morning dive off ryde tomorrow at first light, just hope the viz has improved!!!

Wow indeed . Ben , are there many spearos on the island ? I don't know anything about the Isle of Wight , apart from sailing around it .
Bembridge Ledges was mentioned as a good spot , do you have other good fishing grounds ? Worth a visit maybe ?

Bembridge ledges are very good, theres 2 lagons down there on low tides and i go off them about 2 hours after the tide turns, fish come up and in then, alos theres a wreck of there called the emperors queen and that can be good but theres 3 currents that hit there so its very hard to stay there for a long time,
freshwater is good clears quite quickly there being chalk, sandown pier, ryde pier, ventnor, alum bay,
there all good as long as the vis and the tides are right,
there are a few spearo's over here, one of my friends Nick Pope is heavy into it, he got a 9lb bass last year at ryde pier, (lucky sod!!!!)
but other than that most do it as a little hobbie once a every couple of months, i try to go at least 3 times a week, if the vis is good, some days i will go at 4am then go to work at 7.30am finish at 8.00pm then back in again until im tired, bit avid.
But come over, i get wednesdays off so if you ever want to do a 1 day fly over illed come pick you up at boat and drive you around,

hey all, just got back from ryde, manged to do 3 hours this morning,
did not have the best of luck when my wishbone broke on by beuchat marlin but just a quick trip home to pick up the ab biller and i was back in action again,
vis was not to great around 4-7ft and did not see any good size bass, but i think i did see one disapere into the merk will have to check my vids,
got 8 mullet in total all between 4-6lb, had a funny moment at shore, i just floated in not moving at all and this guy ran into the water because he thought i had drowned rolled me over and feel flat in the water, must have been shocking for him to me smilling and a gun pointing at him, lol. wish a had the camera on classic you've been framed moment, and it would have paid for a new wishbone,

Hillarious - I might try that myself, next time I'm near a crowded beach!

Is there somewhere to park a small van and launch a kayak in Pagham ?
I tried to from the nature reserve car park and got booted off by the warden , trouble with windsurfers apparently , so no launching of small craft . The fact he watched me unload and kit up , then put on a wetsuit , before telling me was a bit annoying . :naughty
Searched among the housing estates for a way down but found only no parking and private signs .
Ended up back at Boggers , vis' was 2m , sea quite choppy , not much seen , one OK bass for tea .
I want to fish the Far Mullbury but it looks a fair way to paddle from Bognor , any ideas ? ( Apart from get a boat . )

DevonDave it is easy to get there from Bognor I and others in my club have swam it from Bognor but you do need to use the tide, get in two hours after high. When the tide turns four hours later it will almost bring you back to the beach but you do need shore marks to find it first time. If you have a gps the wreack is in the correct spot as shown on the chart and is also marked with a bouy.

Thanks eric , I'll try that . I have a GPS and took co-ordinates from the Dive Sussex divers guide , so hopefully they're accurate .
