Hi guys, i went for a dive at west pier on friday and vis was awesome ! I got 2 mullet , one of about 5 pound the other of about 3 and a bass of about 2 pound ,great day!
Went again today at palace pier but strong current, bad vis and assholes on watercraft just ruined my day ( specially the last one )

Hope to go again next week, if someone want to join me just let me know !

Happy dive to everyone !

Nice one dude, I'm jealous about the fish and the vis... I went in on Saturday. Vis was patchy but never more than two meters. I tried a couple of spots that worked for me last year - a few small schoolies, a 2lber that was too fast for me, a nice 3-4lber that buzzed over my shoulder, paused, then was off behind a rock, and a 2-3lber that disappeared into the murk. I fired where I thought it might be, but the spear came back empty.

I'm off to pevensey bay camping tomorrow, just for the weekend. Never been there before. Is it worth taking my spearfishing stuff?
Probably won't be able to travel far as it is a big group meeting, let's of kids etc. I can see on google it is a sandy beach, lots of groynes, any features offshore or any recommendations for better spots along that part of the coast?

Jim

Went in at Brighton last night just after low tide. Water was surprisingly milky. I'm hating myself for missing four decent bass, all at less than point blank range (like having to back up because they're too close to get the gun on them range). Made it back with one bass and a nice sole.
I remember reading somewhere that if you don't have a mesh bag you can tie a lobster to your float line with a clove hitch. Took my lobster all of 3 seconds to get out of that, pausing only to sink his claws into the sole on the stringer. Still, first fish of the season so very happy with that.

Cheeky afterwork dive. Rubbish vis but the bass were out. Nice to meet you Mevdog!

Nice to meet you too bobandsausage, it was even nicer watching all the bass jump right over your head! Just a shame the vis was so bad...

Had my first Sussex fish of the year yesterday near Chichester. Managed to get the tide and wave conditions right to dive a slightly tricky spot and came away with one bass around the 2lb mark. I was pretty pleased with the site because along the way I saw quite a few good sized bream coming in and out of the viz limit. I reckon I'll go back and try to get one or a bigger bass.

Here's hoping the weather holds!

Ed.

for all you genuine night spearos that have a sense of humour, not easly offended and can take a bit of banter....I have started a UK spearfishing without the aid of daylight FB group, myself or one of my admin will have to approve you.
lot's of useful information, tips tricks, catch reports, photos, locations and vis reports.

anyone fished bognor regis reef from beach? where is the best access point from shore, how far out? thanks. might be there sunday if anyone else wants to join me depending on weather.

Sorry dude I'm working out of the country at the moment...just as conditions are good. Good luck with the dive!

Hi all, I have to go to worthing tomorrow with work and I think I could manage a few hours in the water. I would be greatful if someone could let me know an easy to access shore mark? (anywhere from Selsey to worthing) Happy to return the favour for north Wales info.
Thanks

I caught a tuna, but then again I've swapped the cold murky Sussex coast for 26C 40m visibility...

Photos and story please!! Currently working somewhere grey, rainy and landlocked so I need cheering up...

Saw my first big base a 3 days ago at high tide ate the back of wide water lagoon. Was high tide about 11 and I was swimming down to the rock grones and followed two small school base when a massive..... We'll massive for me, bass came swimming passed my nose with not a care in the world. That encounter made me but my gun straight away. Might pop down Brighton later and high tide and see what comes in.
I was tempted to try shoreham harbour. Theresa a beach at high tide near some rocks and a long peri type jetty but have just read up on the Sussex spearfishing rules and it's a no no. Shame it looked fishy down there. Seen loads of big mullet in there.

Yup, you can't fish the harbour at shoreham even though it does look good. I've been in at a few spots near Brighton this week and the viz seems fine. Not many fish about. I've been having a better time slightly further down the coast recently though and took the liberty of putting this together:

Nice mate. Diving more at night at the mo due to work and success rate. Getting some good fish
