Not much time to get down to Devon at the moment so I'm busy exploring all the Sussex spots but the last couple of days they haven't been very fruitful!

Viz last night dreadful at teignmouth convinced it is connected to sea wall repair still going on at the mo, but not just that the sea seems totally empty of fish, main beach, esturary, ness just like someone has sucked up all the fish. Other places I can do no wrong.
Moved on a bit and ended up with 7 bass, nothing bigger than 4lb though. I'll put up on south devon later with a little story, might bring a chuckle.

havent been on here in a while, thought id check out and see whats going on. ive only manaegd to get a few of dives in recently which is pretty gutting, but having quite a bit of luck with lobsters at the mo, so far at least one on every dive and nothing below 2.9lb. bass seem to be pretty active also, managed a few 4/5 lbers. had a few pollock but cant say im a massive fan and loads of mullet but i wont touch them with a barge pole! yuck! ;-)
only downside is the viz! havent had a single day where viz has been over 1.5 meter! i havent used a gun over 75cm long all year i dont think, at least when i have its been good for nothing!

Mullet great for curries and beer batter. As long as they're taken from the open sea and not near any marina etc.
each to their own scrumpy, but i cant stand the things! over the years ive become sick of the sight of them... and as for the taste, forget it!
Hi Liam, nice one on the lobbies - mine have been around the 1.5lb mark so you'll have to show me your spots
and I'm with scrumpy on the mullet front... Heads and bones work really well for fish soup, especially if you throw in your old lobster shells too.
Now, when is the sea going to settle??

Part of me is glad this weathers turned a bit. I've had a serious ear infection which has left my in a and e twice and in the doctors every other day for last fortnight. Means absolutely no diving for me. I can't even breath hold in the bath! To top it off the mrs got me free diving lessons for my 30th 2 weeks ago. I've had to cancel for now :-( gutted!
Hopefully I'll be back in soon though.
And bobsandsausage, how much are my secret spots worth??! Lol.
Truth of it is, the viz is normally so poor I use my gun as an anchor to the float and just dive for lobbies so I find them most places. Trick isn't finding them, trick is finding them without spooking them. And then grabbing the buggers!!

you're more of a man than me - can never get hold of them during the day, only manage at night when they're more dopy.

Optimistically got in this morning - 1m viz at best, 10cm at worst. Didn't see any fish, although they must have been around as I had a cormorant swimming not 2m from me. Unless the cormorant thought I knew what I was doing and might be worth following because it couldn't see anything either... Then the wind and waves picked up and I got out when I had enough of swallowing sea water down my snorkel and feeling seasick. Still, great to get wet.

I'm getting a bit of grief on my video (see above) about having a stringer on my waist. Ok, so it was more un-wrapped in the vid than it usually is and I can entirely see how you might get caught up in something by it. I always carry a knife and would ditch the weight belt if there were any problems.
My buddy's and I have always done this for years.
I guess I'm just asking, was this a really dangerous frowned on behaviour or is it common practice like we thought?

Sorry to hear about the grief dude. Personally I keep the stringer on my float but have seen lots of others with it on their belt...so no idea I'm afraid.

Thanks bobsandsausage, feeling old now! Anyone had any luck recently? My ears still playing up so still no diving for me! I've had a few people texting me how I grab the lobsters without getting pinched! There is a trick, twist your arm so your thumb a forefinger are near the head, and little finger near the tail end, grab the lobster and fight him out, that way it means when you swim up his head is facing downwards and its harder for the pinchers to get you! You've got to be confident though, otherwise you'll likely to get caught. Also look out for eels sharing the same hole! .... Taking lobsters at night is too easy! Real men grab them in the day! ;-) lol
If you're happy with it can't see a problem, I know plenty of guys that do the same. Personally I hate diving without a float and float line attached to my gun, mainly because I often put my gun down and I don't have to worry about loosing it. I use a speed spike (a 6 inch lengtg of metal with a loop at either end) that attaches the float line to the gun, when I've shot a fish I thread it through the gills and out the mouth, then as I swim on the fish drags back to the float, it saves me having to keep swimming back to the float and getting tangled in the line. Everything stays down current from me and out the way. Only time I might use a stringer is when I'm diving piers.
