Just arrived in Brighton - sea looking very very clear. Sadly I have to leave again in a couple of hours... Happy fishing!

went out yesterday evening near shoreham and visability was really good at about 6m, shot the biggest bass I have seen right in the top of the head (it was swimming below me) but he got away. Would a fish shot in the top of the head normally get away, im assuming the side of the head would be best but he was right below me. should I have done something differently? Still gutted about it now!

going to go back out tonight.

aaaaargh! can't believe that after all the weeks of cack weather I'm not in the country when the conditions get perfect...

Valley, when you say "got away" - did the spear just bounce off? go in but not through? through but didn't "flop"? through, flop, but the fish ripped off anyway?

how gutted am i at the moment, working on a block of flats opposite the king alfred center in hove, spend all day glancing over at the sea and it looks perfect!! piers are definatly worth a go at the moment. will be working sat, but if the mrs will let me escape il be diving on saturday for the first time in a while if anyones keen??

Not mega clear but ok quite a bit of fine red sea weed in shore but not sure if that's because there dredging the harbour entrance ??

WooHoo! I got my first silvers! Went out yesterday and got the usual pollack (2) but also managed to hit 2 Mullet! They look like golden spot mullet, but I could be wrong - can anyone ID them?

Both mullet caught at about 6m and, for me, long distance shots so I was ecstatic when I hit them. Absolutely buzzing when I came to the surface with my first Mullet!

The sea was pretty choppy (any worse and I'm not sure I would have got in), but viz was good (it really is hard to know viz before getting in isn't it?!?!).

Dead chuffed to get my first mullet. One was BBQ'd last night (with a pollack) with friends and tasted amazing. The others will be eaten tonight.

nice one mate !!!

Jumped in today at a spot with wyvernp. Both of us got our first bass! Not the largest bass for me (wyvernp's was a good size), but a start...and wow, what a weekend it's been! Really buzzing with my recent 'luck' (nod to scoobaru)

Brilliant stuff, well done guys - you must be dead chuffed with the silver haul. I'd rep you but I need to share the love...

Hi Nick and others.
I've been this Saturday in Talland Bay for BSA competition.
I will post quick report and some picts. soon.

the spear went in but not right through, im using a cressi apache 60cm, it doesnt seem that powerful. should i change the rubber band?

No you should get a 75cm gun instead :)

Where I go you have to creep up on the fish and there are a lot of obstacles so the 60 is ideal.

I might get a 75 aswell though, what would your recommend? I was thinking of the commache

You gun is not ideal because you have wounded a fish!
If you really think you need such a short gun then buy a 70cm airgun as they are actually shorter than a 60 band gun but more powerful.
However I would never really recommend such short guns, there are always going to be some folk who swear by thier tiny guns but, in reality most guys dont use 75cm guns or 90cm guns.
I hunt in the string weed all the time & use either a 75 band gun or a 90 air gun.

Fair point! Which 75cm gun would you recommend?

I think you should be ok with any of the major brands, look for a deal...

I've got a 75 commanche and I'm pleased with it. Just odd that they don't sell these guns with bungees as the default set up?!?!
