Well I stuck together a few bits of wood, I have cut up an ancient evergreen oak from a branch I have had for a few years.
I don’t really have the right tools to mill up a log but after a bit of a fight I managed to get a few laminates out of it.
The centre plank has some crazy grain....
I used an Ebony veneer between aach laminate....

I have planed a basic barrel shape, extreamly hard wood but lots of pretty shavings!
Next I am going to make a carbon spear track but I don’t have any carbon at the moment, so it might be a few days.

I decided to make up a mix of epoxy, black pigment and chopped carbon fibre strands and filled the channel.
I polished and waxed the spear and set it into the mix (Can you spot an unusual feature on the spear?)

The end looks odd, and grooves on the top instead of the bottom of the spear?

It has a spade end designed to stop a slider.

I have planed and sanded the oak barrel to be straight and symmetrical, now it is time to add lateral strength and think about the finished shape...
I cut a slot either side and glued in some Mahogany and made a very basic jig to align it all...

I found it interesting that the oak is so hard and tough, it made me think about the Victory made from hundreds of 12” thick planks!

Perhaps I could make it into an arrow head shape tapering from the front to back so it could part the weed?

That would be an interesting shape , could be effective
