I've only just found this thread!

Good effort to Jonny250 for starting it, and good effort to Jonnyhl for the Pollock - but fantastic effort to Shiny, again!

I'm sure that a lot of other people are uaware that this thread exists, we must make sure that we direct them to it, publicly, when nice fish are caught on the other local threads.

Got in for a couple of hours today, it was 7 degrees but didnt seem to feel that cold, no fish seen but managed 22 scallops.

Nice one Scott,mad keen as ever.

Did a shore dive on my own today. Frost and ice on the sheltered paths ging down the cliff path but worth the effort. I had a nice fat belly pollack spot on the 10lbs.

Nick, did you look in the gut when you filleted it? I'd like to know what they're eating at the moment.

Thanks Dave,he didnt have much in his gut food wise. He had a few sand eels and crabs in him but only a small ammount. There was a lot of sand eels and lance around that morning which suprised me for the time of year. He was full of roe which gave him the beer belly look. My mate had the roe fried up for his dinner last night.

Tasty! and I did wonder about roe. Theoretically they should all be in very deep water breeding unless they're too young or sterile for some reason.

This is the best time of year for inshore pollack Dave. It wasnt uncommon to catch pollack to 18lbs on inshore marks over the christmas period when i was a kid whiffing (trawling with rubber eels). I went to the spot on sunday with the intensions of getting a big pollack. They are in peak conditions at this time of year just before they spawn. Weathers comming in bad again but the next window we get i will be out after something bigger i hope.

I think the plymouth waters are a little warmer around now are they? 9'c?

I still think something weird happened with the weather during the cold snap in Nov / Dec Dave. Maybe it limited food and kept the fish closer in over winter.... or maybe the NE winds kept far offshore waters cooler and the fish have stayed closer???

Dunno, but even the angling people have noticed a change....

He's not joking either - he told me he was gonna go out that weekend and shoot a big pollack, and that's exactly what he went and did!
