Some good mounts if you dont want to make your own available from;

Hey Jon your picture didnt display but I think I know the design you talking about. they sell for $50 so are cheap and do the trick

looking at the design I would say it would be quick to remove if need be and easy to swap from gun to gun.

Paddygoat, 95 squid for a camera mount... you sure? why not run a poll here and see who would pay that much... (no disrespect intended, just seems a long way off the mark.)
No I'm not sure! I'd have to look at the price a bit closer and the only way to do that is to time how long it takes to make one, start to finish. I intend to make a modest 30% profit and no more. I've found in the past it's better to start the price off high and then, as time goes by, and more units are sold, whittle it down by making jigs and buying components in bulk. £95 is the one off price. No offense taken, but how many people want to mount cameras on spearguns anyway?

Ras, do you have the Canon housing for the D10? i have the canon G9 with canon housing and its been used and abused for a year and a half now, regular use etc. I think the housing is very tough and have had no problem mounting via the tripod thread - is it the housing thread that has worn? there is a threaded metal plate in mine so shouldnt wear to easily - do you have that plate?. fwiw i also use a quick-release from an old tripod which is permanently fitted to the housing tripod mount, and the other end on the gun bracket - allows me to remove the camera immediately for pictures like macro shots etc.

HI JONNY THANKS FOR REPLY I USE CANNON D10 WITRHOUT HOUSING AS I MAINLY TAKE PICT UP TO 20 METERES . THE DAMAGE IS ON tripod thread IT SELF ITS MAKE OF SOFT METAL I THINK ALUMINIUM ,I CHECK WITH MY OTHER CANON EOS 400D AND TRIPOD THREAD ITS NADE FROM STRONG METAL.DO YOU THINK IT ITS POSSYBILE TO REPLACE THREAD OR MAYBEY PERMAMENTLY FIX TO BRACKET.

Hi Scott, the photos have posted ok on here.At least, I ,can open them up, think must be a problem your end.Yes, Jeffs mounts are a good price but on the negative side, they will only fit one sized barrell. He will make it to fit barrell size that you have, but I use different guns with different diameter barrells. The ideal , in my opinion is to have a mount that clamps to the barrel whatever the thickness. The problem with mounting a camera near the end of the barrel is it will affect tracking and gun balance.A friend has mounted his camera bracket to the handle so it does not affect tracking or gun balance.i also like the idea of the go pro & fixing it to your head with the strap thats provided.

I've mounted a couple of different cameras to at least one spear gun and my Hawaiian sling. My first digital camera, an Olympus 5050, was pretty big, but that's what was out at the time. It worked OK, but my second camera, a Casio Z1000, worked much better. It was small and shot 640x480 video. I hardly noticed it was there. I even moved it over to my sling with pretty good results- there's pictures of it somewhere else on here in another thread.

I had mine mounted on the back of my speargun because that's where there was a natural mounting point. If there would have been a better spot i would have moved it up the barrel further. I've never used a go-pro, but it's so small I can't see it getting in the way of much. If you've ever seen Terry Mass's video "The Bluewater Hunters" you can see how he mounted a full sized video camera on the front of his gun. the go-Pro would hardly even be noticed compared to that one!

Has anyone actually tested the gopro deep underwater? I've got an HD version but cant get in the water at the moment due to perpetual stormy weather here in the UK. I'm very concerned about it's low light sensitivity in murky UK waters. I will be in Lanzarote on the 15th of January so it might have to wait til then.

Hi Paddygoat,

i have your same problem,,here in malta now we have force 7 Northern winds.I just cant wait more to see the results of the hd gopro.Hope we can make some good clipps and discusse our results soon.
take care

just bought the GoPro HD Surf.
if they ship it in time i will do some monster dogtooth tuna shooting next week.

I've got the Go-Pro Hero 5 wide mounted on my speargun, and also made a pistol grip mounting too. I've taken the Pro to -23m with no ill effects. Just keep the door 0 ring lightly lubed with silicone grease and thoroughly wash it off after each dive, especially around the buttons as these are a weak point.
The "wide" is better for low light in my opinion, but I don't know if there is a wide HD though.

Hi All,

I am thinking of investing in an Underwater camera does anyone own or have any knowledge of:

If not it might be the Cannon D10 - would ideally like something I can use above and below with a max limit £220...

Any suggestions/opinions appreciated.

Cheers

Dont go for the vivitar mate its video spec is very very low, you will regret. They do take nice pictures tho

I would recommend 1280 x 720 pixels and 30 frames per second as a minimum spec. Some cameras allow 60 frames per second, which is great for creating slow motion clips. If you go below 25 frames per second the footage will be jerky.

Hi Ryan,
you can see my video with the new hd gopro camera.it is with 1080p @ 30 frames per second.gopro has other 4 options : wvga @ 60fps,720p @ 30fps,720p @ 60 fps that is very good for slow motion,960p @ 30fps.i also used it in very bad visibility and its quite good,,,,all you can see with your eyes,is captured.it has a very good stand by mode that lets the camera on at all time, just push a button for start record or stop record. battery gives you up to 150 minutes of non stop recording time and hdsd cards up to 32 gb for more than 4 hrs video in hd.you can also charge the battery with a cigarrete lighter if you are on a boat.it is also very light,,as you shoot, the speargun floats horizontally and is exactly the position you need for filming yourself while killing a fish at the surface.

the only draw back is that it has not an lcd screen but as it has a very wide angle, there is no problem of getting the views infront of you.

i found also a small problem with condensation on the lence after around 2 hours of recording.but now by putting some silica gell packets between the camera and the case,,this problem was solved too.

i bought the camera for 330 us dollars,,so it might be in your budget.
hope this will help you

As always thanks for all your advice, stumbling across this forum about 18 months ago has been a god send!

Scott - Shame about the video being crap for such a well priced camera! You probably just saved me 70 squid - from Tesco direct!

Speedcraft - Great review for the Go pro - are you on the books!? Unfortunately I need to use the camera above water too.

Paddygoat, you seem to be the resident specialist! - Canon D10 recording pixels fixed at 1600 x 1200 this should be ample amount then?

Once again thanks all - If anyone else has any input it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Ryan

Probably OK for stills, but most people seem to want to produces videos, in which case you'll be limited to (L)640 x 480 at 30 frames per second.

From the canon website:
Image Size:(L) 4000 x 3000, (M1) 3264 x 2448, (M2) 2592 x 1944, (M3) 1600 x 1200, (S) 640 x 480, (W) 4000 x 2248. Resize in playback (M3, S, 320 x 240)Compression:Fine, Normal.Movies:(L)640 x 480, 30fps, (M)320 x 240, 30fps.

what you mean on the books? haha !! am not an expert in expressions,,
i just tell you all i know about that cause i made many reaserch about action cameras and am going spearing in thailand and must have best videos for best memories.
sorry, gopro is an action camera, rather than a holiday camera, but still can be used out of water too to take pics and have a function for taking pics every 2 sec,,,5 sec and more according to your setting.but there is alwayas the drawback of no lcd screen.

You CAN get an LCD screen for your gopro. The back cover comes off the camera and the new cover slots into the camera through the electrical connections.
