Why not make a Team World Championship in depth disciplines only?

deep water..
Little current..
Warm water..
Great visability..
The people are much much nicer than the egyptians...
Better hygene than Egypt..

I don't think Aqaba is deep enough - from memory it only got to about 60m - plus it does have all the same "problems" (which I've never really seen as problems - but then I'm not about to conscripted into the Egyptian military) as Egypt -it's the same red sea, the food is as dodgy, the taxi drivers as wearing....

Maybe someone could talk Stavros (Kastrinakis) into organizing something big as The Worlds on a more permanent basis (5 year period or something like that), if that is what is wanted among the competing freedivers. Septemeber and October (maybe also November?) are nice months in Greece, I suppose. But prices will rise quite a bit compared to Egypt.

There is a comp with three depth disciplines. Its not Team, its only 90 meters of depth, but the winner or Dahabs Triple depth is a truly great freediver.

Interesting discussion- someone asked the Africa question, the south-eastern coast of Africa has amazing water, Mozambique all the way up to Kenya... but also cyclones, currents and WAVES!
But I would say the biggest problem is that it's not so accessible. Even just traveling from South Africa to Zanzibar etc is expensive... but VERY VERY much worth the adventure and exploration... if i find a deep, easily accessible place I'll be sure to let you know!

If you are concerned about sustainability and the environmental impact of freediving events, then it could be worthwhile thinking more laterally about the whole issue. I am thinking of Nike's recent 'run for life' event, where people used new pedometric technology to race each other all over the globe, all at the same time. It is rather damaging to the environment and expensive flying freedivers all over the globe to various competitions, when the internet may be able to provide a much more viable solution to some concerns being posted here. Over a certain period (say two weeks) you could have competitions run in several locations around the world, facilitated by AIDA and connected with one another through a robust online server that is updated every ten minutes. I am aware that a solution like this is not half as fun as having everybody in the same place, but it might be a good event nonetheless, since it would allow much larger numbers to participate. It could then be complemented by an event where people do meet in the same place, but in fewer numbers. For example, the model I am suggesting could be good for the team championships, and then athletes could be selected and invited for the individual championships: which is held in one location with less people.

Interesting thoughts, but most freedivers don't live near a deep dive site. So they would still need to travel somewhere.
What you are suggesting already exists, it's called world ranking (except we don't have a full one for 2008 yet... ), and WC in Bahamas for a few.

Well, Sambro, your whish may become sooner realised than you expect. Not only is the world decending quickly into an economic crises, but also policies of restricted travel are enforced.
I partly share your worry for our enviroment, GMO, pesticides, chemtrails etc. but at the same time I'm aware thanks to books writen by the big players and think tanks such as 'The Club of Rome' - who wrote: The First Global Revolution - that the rulers create and use any creed to further their agenda.

Hearing the fashionable buzzwords of today makes me recognise the origen of the thought.

Though Internet has it's practical uses, I really prefere meeting people face to face, and diving in real water
