AIDA DEPTH WC 2009 in the Bahamas.

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
glenn, exactly my guess! We will probably see the highest ratio of BO's ever... I'm afraid...
Yeah, but I've discussed this with some people and it is predictable just by basic game theory.

So many freedivers are close to each other in depth and distances and all want to make the final. There are more candidates for the finals than there are spots available. To get to the finals you will have to do close to a PB or even more. Add to this a little bit of stress, a "Do or Die" mentality, the competitive spirit of the divers (which is not always a bad thing) and the reward for getting at the finals (which does not have to be financial, just the knowledge of your peers that you are one of the few can be all the reward you will ever need) and you have the basic ingredients for a high ratio of BO's. In the final you have a about the same mix of ingredients but in a more explosive mixture, especially if there is more than one clear contender for the top spot.

I predict it will be even worse at future events with a final system like this as the group of athletes that can do these kinds of big dives is getting bigger and bigger and closer and closer to eachother. I do not think it will affect the normal competitions that much unless there is a significant reward associated with a limited number of places. As soon as there is a competition set up like the world championships with a sufficiently large field of competitors and status, it is inevitable.

That 'basic game theory' has not been adopted by almost any of the male CNF competitors. Of the top ten announcements not one is more than their training PB (and many are significantly less).

Cool keep em white guys.
p.s Stupid questionprobably but what is DT ?
I know white /yellow / red / BO

Duhh. Of course . Had a brain lapse ;-)

Good to see all those white cards. Maybe and hopefully our predictions will not come true.

Aha that explains at least a bit why so many (6!) dive to 63 meters.
Couldn't figure out what was so special about 63. Or is it a special limit where your lungs implode ?

p.s. Isn't it about time for some new results ?

indeed, new results, i needed 3 beers to prepare myself though, hold on to your trousers, here we go:

Mads (Becker): White and a NR (go Mads!)
Anders: Same!! (white and NR)
Christian: BO
Mads (the other one), White and NR
Rob King, nicest guy in freediving, White and a lovely National Record (thats the NR Glenn
Sebastian: White card with a long 2:41 dive, not bad for the guy who has single-handedly cleaned the entire beach of toothbrushes prior to the event.
Christian (Ernest), White card, DT 3:05, and a scrumptious NR
Jure, White, NR and DT 2:52
Kerian (Worlds nicest freediver, I know, I know, but there are several): BO - big hug mate, shake it off.

Stay tuned for more a little later.
(switches off expensive satellite equipment and looks for another beer)

Wow , beautifull all those white cards. And a NR avalange. Congrats to you all !!!!
Toooooooo bad for Kerian. Such a nice guy. He deserved better. But thats in the game....

So Sebastians should also be a national record and making Anders Larrson's NR a very short lived one. And then again Sebastians NR even shorter lived by Christian Ernest's dive ;-)
