AIDA Results Register

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
The AIDA Forum is open for AIDA questions.

..simple and easy.

Thanks, Bill! Yes, at the very beginning, I considered starting the discussion there instead, and saw it would be more appropriate, but knowing there are rarely any posts, and likely few passive visitors too, I though it wouldn't get much attention from the freediving community there. I'll follow your advice, and start a thread on the official forum in a moment, or later tonight after my training.

Thanks,
Ivo

On the AIDA forum I started a thread on the 27th of february 2009 concerning the AIDA Ranking - so far no answers...

You are most welcome to contribute with more post and more questions in that thread, Trux.

Or start your own - it can only be more succesful than mine.

Morten

Thanks, Morten, I'll check it out, and post there. I think I indeed may have seen it already.

Trux, please start a new thread on the aida forum because Morten's thread is in an area that is available to instructors and/or judges only.

OK, I did. It is here: AIDA International

I did not repeat all the details we discussed here, but if necessary, we can rehash them there again.

Hm, I've got a PM telling me that the thread is not accessible. I do not have any higher privileges in the AIDA forum (as far as I know), so am rather surprised. However, I just tried accessing it after logging out, and indeed the thread is restricted. So it definitely is not accessible to visitors not being logged into the AIDA forum (which alone is not necessarily bad, because it may not matter keeping the discussion closed for registered members), but I wonder whether there are some differences among registered forum members, and if there are some more cases of people (logged in) who cannot access the discussion. Please either post here or send me a PM telling me whether you can access the discussion in AIDA's forum or not. If there is a general problem with the access, I'll have to copy the post to another sub-forum or ask the admin to move or open it (which might take a while).

I'm a normal human bean and I don't have permission.
Hm, that's what I though about myself too, so I wonder how I managed to penetrate among the Übermenschen at AIDA. Are you sure you were logged in when trying to access the thread? Can you see/access the General Discussions about AIDA subforum?

The AIDA forum does allow me to move the thread, but I asked moderators to do so. I ma not sure though if they are as reactive as here on DB, so ma not sure when/whether it happens. I would copy my post to another subforum, but now there are already some replies, so cannot do it anymore.

BTW, Francisco, if you are still watching this thread, and regardless of the result of the AIDA discussion: what do you think about opening the source code of Freedive Central, allowing so other programmers to help you improving it?

Currently I see some small details that could be improved, but there is also room for plenty of extensions. There is one detail though that can be fixed easily and immediately: it is very minor, but causing a lot of havoc in the database. In the registration form you ask for name and surname. It looks like about 50% of people (especially French) are persuaded that surname is the the first name, so changing the labels to first name(s) and last name (family name), would avoid having the database polluted by 50% of inversed names.

Hi

I ve asked for a new password to participate in the AIDA forum. Lost mine. Might get the new one in a few days ...

Meanwhile, what I can say is that we could ( paulo and I ), just like we already told AIDA international board and his president Bill Stromberg some years ago, offer the FC system + all upgrades needed, as long as all AIDA competing athletes and all AIDA competition organisers inscribe threw Freedive Central.

AIDA international would have a perfectly integrated ranking system in its website.

If AIDA and its president accepts, we could then discuss about having more people involved in the project. Don't see any reason for not doing it.

safe dives to all

As Bill wrote on the AIDA forum, to have access to exactly that part of the forum you have to be a national AIDA member. I have no idea where you can set it up, or who decides it, because I am pretty sure that some of those who could not get in, indeed are AIDA members. If you are an AIDA member, and cannot access the subforum, I guess you will need to contact the forum admin.

Still nothing. I wonder why the AIDA forum is poorly used?

Hi Chrismar,

I'm having the same problem with the AIDA site. I am now trying to use the 'Contact Us' link on the site to see if my permissions can be corrected.

cheers
Eric

I asked Bill, to look at it. I really do not understand the algorithm they use for assigning the privileges, because myself I was organized under FFESSM and not AIDA in the time I registered on the forum, and became regular AIDA member only lately.

However, Francisco is the most wanted in the discussion on AIDA forum now. My opinion is that using the Freedive Central and building it up, would be the best and fastest solution. Unfortunately, Bill does not share the opinion, claiming AIDA cannot integrate external solutions (although Jome's Register is also on an external server), and that the interest of Freedive Central is commercial and for profit - from what I heard from Francisco, I have big doubts about it, but of course, I cannot speak for him. So it is really necessary that he gets access to the forum, and posts his comments there.

I ll do it as soon as I get my password.
Still waiting ... unless i am doing something wrong !?

Now, if as Trux says " Bill doesn't share the same opinion " ... I don't believe anything will be done with Freedive Central.
