Alison and Dick Splash

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
This is absolutely unbelievable. Alison and Colin were one of my favorite teams. I'll never get rid of all my messages between the two and I. This is horrible. Absolutely Horrible. I still don't understand the details of the incident, but I only hope it was an absolute accident, and not someone's fault (driving while under the influence, speeding, running the traffic light, etc.).

It's funny how you can get to know people across such a vast distance nowadays. Sometimes it's this convenience that makes it harder when they're taken out of your daily life. I always looked forward to Alison's jaunts whenever I made one of my absurd pictures. And I loved reading Colin's retorts to Alison's marital commentaries, ha ha.

I know they've made a big impression on a lot of fellow divers, so I can't imagine how they're family must feel. There's gonna be a hole in my heart for a long while. My condolences to any family members, and closest of friends that read this.

All my love, sorrow, and happiness to them and theirs.

Words fail to describe the loss we have suffered........

I'm SURE that they've gone to a wonderfull place, where the water is always warm, the viz. always great and the fish always HUGE!!!

A Poet called Mary Fry wrote a poem in 1932, which I have 'borrowed', and changed the words, which I would like to dedicate to Alison and Colin.

Do not stand at our graves and weep,
We are not there, we do not sleep.

We are the quite calm you feel in your heart,
as your immersion begins, as the freedive will start.
We are the light which will dance on the surface,
as you fin back from depth..your life filled with purpose.

When your divings been perfect, and the ocean emerald blue,
Colin and I are the 2 dolphins, which you may see pass by you.

as the sun sinks to the ocean, wherever you dive we are there,
we are the sun on your skin, we are the wind in your hair.

So friends at deeper Blue, do'nt stand at our graves and cry.

We are not there, we did not die.

Jeff.

I as well am at a loss for words.....

Allison had given me some advice for doing some writing and such...

I feel like someone hit me in the stomach....

A memorial needs to be permantly posted on this board.

Truly a horrible and un-fillable loss to us all.

May they rest in peace.

I'm one of those who sees death as a transition in evolution, that we can not die because we were never born, having eternal souls. And this is a very deeply held belief for me. But this can never, never replace any of the sadness and respect I feel for Alison and Colin. I am happy to have met them through this medium, they have made me laugh a lot, and brought many smiles. I, like many of you was also hoping to meet them sometime. The best way to honor and remember them is to take them into our hearts - into the quiet regions of our silence and send them our peace, support and lots and lots of love. They will be missed.

My deepest condolences and sympathies to their family.

Adrian

I couldnt find the right words to write since this morning... It is soo sad.. My deepest condolences to all their friends and family..

I never met Alison or her hubby, but had been mailing Alison a lot recently about getting the BSA forum set up on here rather than their own site. That is so sad. Such a tragic lose of life. She seemed so full of life and I was always pleased to read her e-mails back to me - they were always so helpful and funny. Sympathy to all those that knew them. Clive - BSA secretary, and therefore on behalf of the BSA.

What a loss. I will miss her dearly, she was a pleasure to exchange PMs with and always was very polite and extremely knowledgable. She will be missed.

This is very sad. Alison really helped make this place welcoming, warm and hilarious. I felt like I was just getting to know her.

I wish she and her husband all that is best

I cant believe they have gone, Colin was my best freind, we went through university together, Alison I met last year for the first time. They were the happiest people I knew, every encounter with either of them was hysterical, everybody who met them loved them. I remember those very boring lectures when everybody was falling asleep including the lecturer, Colin would always be there to come to the rescue with some question from hell that would have everybody including the lecturer on their hands and knees, or the time he cut the end of his finger off, even in great pain he turned up to a computer lab for an artificial intelligence module about chatbots, he had the whole lab in fits with his interaction with this thing with his comments about him cutting it off and loosing some weight, well I think you had to be there. Alison was so funny too, she would light up a room when she walked in, always smiling, always very smartly dressed with the whitest teeth I have ever seen. She was also an incredible spearfisher, always managed to catch something even when the rest of us couldnt see the ends of our guns. Everybody who went to see them always remarked on their hospitalty, their huge bbq's that would appear out of nowhere along with large quantities of home made wine, some of which was actually drinkable
I was proud to be their freind, and I shall always miss them

I got a PM this mornng about this and the lights went out. Alison and Colin were in Sri Lanka when my wife and I were drinking a beer with Sands at Summer Island last year. We left a week before they were going to and... well... we missed the Tsunami. They didn't. I will miss her funny replies to some of my rather off-color comments among other things.

A Gaelic Blessing (Words adapted from a set of Gaelic Runes and put in to an arrangement by John Rutter) for Ali and Colin.

Deep Peace of the running wave to you
Deep Peace of the flowing air to you
Deep Peace of the quiet earth to you
Deep Peace of the shining stars to you
Deep Peace of the gentle night to you
Moon and Stars pour their light on you
Deep Peace of Christ, the light of the world, to you

Peace my friends... we will miss you

Jez I can't believe it. :waterwork Alison is always at hand with advice & encouragement for us budding new spearos. With the internet, it seems we are all not far apart. Alison is... :(was... such a massive contributor:king to our community -- she will be sorely missed...conspicuous by her absence. Hopefully, we have all learnt enough from her to continue to help each other with that warm comaraderie Alison specialised in. Thankfully her contribution has been captured & lives on in the forums.

I am just gobsmacked. How awful. :waterwork Such a good person. :rcard :vangry :( :waterwork

Hopefully Alison & Colin have found their own happy hunting ground, with superb beaches & clear seas. Where the yellow and blue fin tuna are plentiful, out numbered only by superb bass and huge Spanish mackeral. :wave

Alison invited me to become a member on deeperblue.
I had never a chance to mail her back.

My deepest condolence to all who have known them

I just saw Sinky's avatar had changed and was wondering what was up with it. Then I started searching the annoucements :waterwork :waterwork :waterwork I can't believe it, what a terrible tragedy. My condolences to the families and all friends here on deeper blue. I guess it will really be blue for a while now.

I always enjoy reading posts by Colin and Alison. They struck me as unusually witty and vivacious people. Alison's posts gave me hope as a rank amateur spearo - she never looked down on those less proficient. Both of them had rare senses of humor. To say that I will miss them is an understatement; there are no words to express a loss like this. God be with their family, and with us.

Its amazing how close you can get to people without ever meeting them.
They both will be greatly missed.
Condolences to their Friends, Family and the entire Deeper Blue Community
