To add to some of the comments on the first page (I haven't read all 6 lol), I agree that although not many of us are suicidal, we are 'terminally orientated'. I just think it comes from being so relaxed and in tune with ourselves, and we know and accept the risks that we take, and that death is always minutes, sometimes seconds, away.

Even me, I'm pretty at peace with myself. I am not suicidal, never really have been, but I am not afraid of death. I try and be safe when diving, I'm not trying to get myself killed, but I'm not particular afraid of a SWB... I think I'd just kind of laugh it off if I died.. be like 'haha.. I should have known better'.

I think it's just that we are just put in a very curious situation.. being haunted by death, and yet being very relaxed. I think that changes our general outlook toward death.

I don't want to die, but.. if someone told me I have a few minutes left to live.. I'd be pretty relaxed.

But being okay with dying and not afraid of it, and actively wanting to die, are not the same thing. I've heard that people who don't fear death should seek psychiatric help... that's absurd if you ask me.

Ive tried to read as many posts of this topic as I can and from what Ive read its obvious that freediving and breath holding have a profound psychological effect on most people.

I think that the extreme relaxation and other feelings that freediving provoke are handled differently by different people. Depending on the person, that type of extreme...well I dont have a name for it but if you freedive you know what Im talking about... can cause people to become depressed or elated. Probably in the same way that people react differently to the same drugs.

Idk...thats my take.
