Man, I can't leave you guys alone for more than a few posts!!! I think the trip had a more significant impact on you than I could have imagined. But I guess that is what you get for dancing with the island spirits. You are all certifiably insane it appears.
Anyhow, I have no clue what I will be up to or where I will be at the end of June, let alone at the end of March. I can say that if I am around in BC and am not involved in an intense project, I will most likely be inclined to attend, and once again would be inclined to attempt to sail up there in time. I almost made it there during my summer sailling adventures. I had one day more of sailing and I would have made it, but time constraints had me turn around. This was during daily gale force winds in the afternoon. It was an adventure.

I have been staying at Gods Pocket on both my divingtrips to BC and i travelled from SWEDEN!
Will you spear all the Lingcods and take the Puget Sound King Crabs to eat?
I would love the waters around God´s Pocket to become marine protected sanctuary since it is the best cold water diving place in the world.
I also know the woolfeels and lingcods are so freindly you can bacically sneak up to them and scratch their chin so i would think it was sad if someone speared thoose friends of mine.
I really consider to go to canada to meet all the nice guys that hang here on Deeperblue.
To fondueset: now i have proof that you not just seem to be very nice person but that you are a very good person that do care about others than yopurself in this selfish cruel world.

Hi Poseidon,
Gods' pocket is a provincial marine park. I don't know to what extent of "protection" this provides. Where we are spearfishing is about 60+ km from God's pocket. There is a healthy commercial and recreational fishery from all over this region, from which the impact of these few spearos is essentially irrelevant. I also know that the resort at God's pocket supports the activity of the local fisheries by serving local seafood to their guests. Please come and dive with us if you are able, but be aware that at the end of the day there will be fresh lingcod "friends" at the table for our consumption.

I'm an extremely selective spearo - and most often prefer to take pictures. (I've been looking for a speargun with longer range - because I prefer to photograph the fish I can get close too - which - frustratingly for my spearo aspirations - is a growing group) It's true the Ling are not hard to approach - they are tricky to find however - and one stole Gabe's speargun!! (Seriously - a big Ling came out of nowhere and grabbed a rockfish he speared - then dragged it and the spear down and got it stuck in a cave!) More significantly they are extremely good to eat.
You won't find a more conscientious and respectful group of people anywhere - or better meals!

Sounds like a great group to meet over there and alot of fun even for a european like me, maybe i should organize trip there combined with some scubadiving also.
I think the respect of not taking fish at the deivspots and on wrecks and in caves and such is good.
Its interresting to see how the mindset has changed from the pioneer day til now.
More and more spearfishers have become environmental concious and that is a good thing.
In Sweden spearfishing is completely banned but in Norway it is allowed as in Finland.
Eric, I volonteer to film your hunting as i have good dv-camera thats rated for 100 meters.
Tylerz do you have Swedish ancestry by any chance?

Everyone seems in agreement about the dates of June 24-30.
Good news. I have contacted Lindsey, our previous boat captain and builder of the glass bottom boat, to see if he can accommodate us during this time period and he responded positively (see below). I wanted to get his attention early and have him book time for us around the tours he does. Let me know what you guys think, but I personally think we should request him for as many days as he can provide us that week, like 3-4 weekdays. Our time with him could be flexible from full 8 hour days to single dive location trips 3-4 hours, depending on our needs. The other weekday we may want to hit Port Hardy area and the weekend or other down time can be local shore diving. Lindsey was so cheap relative to anything else we can get charter-wise and the diving we can access with the boat can't be beat.
Here is Lindsey's response.
"I am interested in accomodating your group again. It is very good to contact me in advance so I can make the appropriate preparations. Is it better when the tide is low so you can get closer to where the sea life is? If so and you have the chance to change date of your trip now, the quality of your boat time might be better. I have attached the tide tables of July 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. They seem like better days to me. As you can see in the diagrams, the low tide mark advances by an hour every day. There are two
low tides each day, one very low and one half tide low. June 25th to 30th, the low low falls before 7am. So get back to me if this affects your decision or not I would be happy to accommodate your group again.

I didn't think the tides would be enough to affect everyones decision on the dates, but I appreciate what he is saying. Any comments or concerns.

My last name is Swedish and my family has Swedish ancestry. My family never identified any known relatives in Sweden with the same last name, however. skål!

I have some horrible news :waterwork :waterwork
The new Feb 07 Rockfish Conservation Areas (RCA) now include Haddington island. This means zero fish (including ling) from that area. We can only take invertebrates from the RCA's.
The good news is that there is still lots of awesome territory and diving in the region. I just received the Nautical charts from that area (Broughton Strait) in the mail and will be studying it in detail for further expedition.

Yes, thanks Chris. To be more clear, I am referring specifically to the small island that had the rock quarry, where the schools of black and yellowtail rockfish were in the 1000's and the lingcod were in abundance :waterwork . Overall, I don't think this will affect our trip that much, as there is a lot more sea to been seen. I would still like to do one dive at that island this year, just to remind myself of its glory.
