British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Agreed on all counts.

Gabe, I hope you emailed tyler or pete with your lincod feeding story - that was definitely one of the highlights of the trip!

Eric - the rule on the book - it should be fun to write :) I'm convinced the ancedotal flow is one of the most effective and comprehensive modalities of communication - it allows for multiple levels without contrivance.

I have some amazing footage of Pete - When you watch it think of all the whale films you've seen - it's really pretty striking. This is pretty rough - just whipped it together here at work. Brianna - I do not know why your video won't display - I'm going to reprocess it and submit it again.

Best way to view this and avoid buffer lag is to right click on the link below and select 'save target as'. be sure and turn up the audio :)

Gabe,

Welcome to DB finally. I had just thought that I needed to PM Brianna and tell her you need to get on here firsthand so we can all communicate better.

Great videos Brianna, Gabe, and Chris. I am now starting to appreciate the beauty of having underwater multimedia equipment.

Lee - Brianna just mentioned that not only is it inspiring and entertaining, but it's also educational. You can watch your own technique etc. We're happy to have prioritized that housing a while back :) side note: I didn't have time to properly rest before following you down, but it was close to a great spearo moment. Next time!

Chris - I'm having thoughts about future video documentation. After watching the footage we obtained & 'where's my mind', as well as knowing what the raw footage looks like, I would do things a little differently. I'd also like to talk camera settings some time. Your photos have a great color balance. We used the presets.

Colin - scuba would be a great idea for getting great footage too. we need to explore this more in the future :) Sorry we didn't get to that at Tcove.

All of us must not forget that Tyler has about 30 or 40 minutes of footage taken by Peter and myself with the Ocean Images housing. There were a couple of great shots of Brianna and Eric with their monofins as well as numerous underwater scenery views.
[OK Tyler, ......the pressure is on]

:)

I'm down.

I'm watching Robert Plant doing some of his new stuff from 'Mighty Rearranger' on PBS - AWESOME sound track stuff.

My site can handle anything up to a hundred Meg - I'm looking forward to some of the stuff Tyler has!

Gabe - I use a touch of photoshop to make up for no flash - but just a touch.

Tyler gave me some great hints on settings - trick is to get a decent shutter speed. Auto tends to overexpose on mine - and blur. I'm not far ahead of you on the learning curve - I agree - major coolness. It's a process learning how what you do ends up looking.

ok, here goes it, roll call!

Eric F – Grandmaster Fattah, was a pleasure listening to your sage advice, the Force is very strong with you, even if you do look like Kenny (of southpark fame) in your Pre-dive threads :D

Pete – You scare me. Ok, there I admit it. I foresee you becoming an evil genius one day, and that little black book did not contain article notes, but rather carefully laid plans for world domination. Had a blast trying to keep up with the witty humor, pitty you had to take off early! Just remember, the real reason to freedive is to kill fish, not to prance around in neckweights ;)

Tyler – Is there anything you don’t eat? A group of freedivers would never starve to death if you were around. Providing they were keen on ingesting stuff that is still twitching ;) thanks for continually humbling the rest of us “experienced” spearos with larger fish, and spearless catches.

Jim – My Wrestling Buddy! Thanks for coming along, even if I had to be your bitch! there is no way this trip would have been the same with out you, and sleeping in Chateau Doe was far more comfortable then my Bivy. you took the cold water, early mornings, and random slug encounters with unwavering conviction, and some slang I have yet to translate, must be an American thing.... ;) Quite the trooper, I can’t wait until we get to team up again, on another fishing trip, “cause I can’t quit you!” hahah I’m very sorry about the large whale lady verbally sodomising you for your legal, ethical, fish harvesting practices.

Lee
– the quiet professional, had a blast talking shop and chasing fish together. That was the best seafood chowder and blackened fish I have EVER had. When I win the lotto you can give up the MD thing and be my cook? Deal? now we just have to get you up here for some hunting!

Chris – Our conduit to the world of Zen, eternal Peace, and secret weapon in the fight against the Ignorant Obese Spearo Haters :D was very educational talking to you and you kept me laughing! Sitting back and watching the dialog unfold between you and your daughter was priceless, kept me on my toes ! Your photo’s and videos are amazing!

Claire – You are one hardcore chick! Ok, please, don’t hurt me, I mean, “Strong-Willed liberated Female”. There, all better :D you went out diving in a 3mm plush lined suit! And still had fun! You put all of us 6.5mm opencell lads to shame when we complained about the cold! Your sharp witt, and Carnivorous appetites are the stuff of legends (or will soon be!) Glad you came along, you added a very unique dynamic to the group. Your photography skills are first rate, you made wet Kelp cool again :D

Brianna & Gabe – The Dynamic Duo! It was quite the Blindsider’s reunion! Thank you for staying up and helping us setup shop, was greatly appreciated! And Brianna, the shirt! SO COOL! I wore it today, and people stared, and I smiled, and all was well in the universe! Gabe, thanks for typing all that happy squishy nice stuff a few posts up about me, we all know it’s a lie, but that’s ok, I’ll just have to give you a large man-hug (I think they call them a handshake and beers?) next time I’m in loops :D we never did touch the Absinth! Oh well, will keep it next to the sugar, for next time.

I would also like to thank:

Erik Y - the mastermind behing this BD Gathering!
PapaSmurf - Shirt Provider and ultimatly responsible for giving me a place to meet the like minded folks I shared this trip with

Lindsay - our fearless captain, and quick-fixer of fuel challenged situations

The Coast Guard officer for being very hot :D

The doe eyed girl working at the check-in desk - for looking at me every morning like I was insane.

The well fed Whale Watcher lady for not running us over, so kind of you :D

Here's the download link for Brianna's trip Video. Like it's author it is completely charming.

Collin and Jim - I thought you should know I did try those Swedish Pancakes...

I'm surprised nobody has signed up for my Whale decorating trip. I think selling advertizing space on whales is a wonderful idea and would help our friend the whale lady in the realization of her evolution toward complete personal rabidity.

PS - Claire is putting up some fantastic pictures she took during the trip - be sure and check back at her site

Mmmmm Pancakes.... Mmmmmm Pancake Girl.... Mmmmmm......

I'm up for some Whale Tagging, I think though, in the interest of Artist Merit, we should let Claire direct the placement. I'd really like to see a Humpback with Flowers all over it, like a 70's volkswagon bus.

those are some Amazing pics your Daughter took! so many good pics comming out of this trip!!

Chris, I have a few to upload, wanna run me through the "hows" of that?

Great video!
What band plays the song in the video (the second song I guess)?

Saludos,

'Where is my mind?' by The Pixies

:thankyou

WOW. We think alike. That song was the runner up to Moby on my last vid. It was sitting at the top of the list for the freedivapalooza video. Damn you and your excellent taste :). Downloading the vids riiiight now......

Great footage! Brianna's video isn't "seekable" (aka, you can't jump around or rewind). I've "fixed" this. If you are interested drop me a PM and I'll up it to your site (or email it to you if your account is fat enough).

The vid of that crab was nuts!!

Claire! Nice to see you on the forums.

Is Tyler working on Telegraph Part Deux? I've got my article pretty much finished and it's all about Colin's joie de vivre. ;)

I'm also dying to know what happened after Eric and I left. Where did you guys dive? Did you go to Browning Pass or any other sites further afield?

I love all the comments about each person going back and forth. Mine will be thinly veiled by the shroud of an official "article" for DB. :)

Ah, the summer's not over yet! I'm going to Campbell River for some wicked diving. :inlove Tyler, are you coming?

Pete

Looking forward to that article - after the night of the Ling-Head I'll be interested to see how you manage that strange edge...

Campbell River ... does anybody want to pay me to live in Canada? I have a stunning personality and am really interesting looking.

Next time I want to focus more on some Macro Photography, also Video following deep divers (as far as I can) and spearos (pretty sure I can do this without spooking the fish) and just generally get better at this stuff. As allways I want to try and express more of the feeling of how it is down there.

I've wanted to use that Pixies tune for something for awhile - they have such a freaky sound.

Here is another great soundtrack option

Shine it all around
