British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I've uploaded most of the pics Tyler took with Claire's Casio. (aside from a few that didn't turn out) There are some very evocative shots of kelp and some beautiful pictures of divers. The Basket stars are awesome!

tossed a few up, for some weird reason most of my pics were taken on the drive home, so not really applicable. great pics tyler!

Nice Burl! Jim could have a career as 'the guy who poses next to stuff'.
Everybody feel free to add comments, titles or whatever on that site.

I though a few of you might be interested in this. for me, half the fun of heading south for a trip like this is the drive. here are a few pics of that joyful (ah hem...) "fraiser canyon" drive......

Feel free to put that stuff up on the site - it all goes to atmosphere. What exactly went on with Jim and that bear anyway? That was the most awesome countryside I've ever seen.

I'll let Jim tell that story ;)

that country side is nothing, you want a sureal visual experience? drive through Banff, Jasper and Mt. Robson parks. Calgary to Prince George. 8 hours that will make you feel microscopic.

That Bowfin is sooooo cool. I love how it stops finning and then its dorsal fin does a neat undulation.

Very nice!

Pete

I wonder what's up with that. They are relentless predators and I wonder if that little ripple is an attempt to attract prey.

It was awesome and totally unexpected to encounter that beast. Right after the still profile he swam into a sort of cul de sac in the rocks, freaked out and bolted. I really wanted some shots from underneath and head-on.

A week after the TC Trip, I went to a simmilar type meet. Traded our wetsuits for earplugs, spearguns, for rifles, and ... well you get the drift ;) so yeah if any of you thought I was a tad pink round the neck while we were in TC, think again ;)

the video just got finnished:

Haggis eh? Good idea for our next adventure. Bring along a couple garbage bags of frozen haggis.

Vid won't play :(

What do you think about Frying Pan Shoal next?

PS - trading the 100 for a 90 - I think the more hydrodynamic shape of the 90 will make for much better tracking. The species I'm interested in move fast and constantly.

Fixed the link, I think, works for me.

where is Frying Pan Shoal? I'm keen to head back to Telegraph Cove, or maybe go have some cold drinks in Cabo next year ;)

did you get the 90 cobra or MA Chris?

Cobra. I think frying pan shoal is off North Carolina - it's Mark Labocetta territory. Supposed to be amazing spearfishing and diving in general - with a good range of depths and everything from Bluewater to reef.

Hmm... could be a possibility :D I do owe Mark a beer..... but with beer in mind it is a US Destination... would have to import some Canadain stuff, can be drinking that american swill..... ;)

Lee,

I submitted it a month ago to the editor. He hasn't informed me when it will be posted. :(

Pete

No problem Pete, I was just trying to give you a little guilt trip :) . Maybe he is editing out the 80 lb ling encounter and the part when we all rode on the back of the whales :t

I've got some more pictures to put up - typically in the first run I for some reason exclude a bunch of really nice shots that I discover later.

Since then Claire has been into 'no gear' diving - as you can see in the shots at the bottom of my site. I think I need to get her a monofin and a sphera.

I'll get the pics up there over the next couple of days.

If anyone interacts with Tyler, pass the word that I would really like a copy of the video tape Pete and I made with my video camera. I would gladly make the copy of it myself and then send the orginal tape back to him.

Tyler, if you're out there, I will send you a bucket of cash if you respond to me! Please, I really want my footage!!! :(

Jim
