Dude if there is, it's a load of hogwash, for a few reasons. 1) I know people who have been diving there for 20yrs and never been stopped 2)on any given day there are twenty divers in the water in plain view of the inspectors who watch from the mountainside. Inspectors have checked my licences and sizes but nobody has ever told me that I can't dive there. 3) Soetwater is run by the city council and I personally know the man in charge of the whole area, I met him on Monday, In fact we even took out a few kreef for him as well. 4) I've never seen this sign in the three years I've been diving there.
So it's very unlikely to impossible.

Hey Jeff
A while back when you where planning a similar trip, someone mentioned something about having a braai. Will it be possible to have a braai on board?

have you guys signed the online petition against the diving ban in certain areas along the coast that is being proposed by MCM?

Let me just congratulate Reece on his first gun and his first fish, and not a bad one I might add! - Big Black tail. Those are nippy buggers, so heres to Reese!:friday
Did you weigh it?

Bellville pool is only 5 or 6m mate :) Its nice and long though so that should help a bit.
Jim Ill give you a call over the holidays and we can hook up for a dive if you want.

I've got these tables for depth training, where you swim underwater for 25 seconds and then on top for 25 and then drop again for 25, this carries on for 2-3 mins, then when you can handle that comfortably you lengthen your time under water, like 20 on top 30 under. That exercise is supposed to help you with your short dives (like for kreef and so on). Then there is one where you swim under water for 15 secs, then you lie under the water for 30secs then swim again for 15 and come up for air and rest 1min, and repeat 20 times and then have a long rest. Obviously that one's times can also be adjusted as you get better.

So there are ways to simulate diving depths. The only problem is that you don't have the added factors of equalization, neutral and negative bouyancy to compensate for.

22m at the bottom! woah! i think im gna be sticking to the 15m mark! you youngsters with big lung capacities hey! blerrie hell!

:t shot my biggest fish at 15m...its a great place to hangout! (43kg sailie). I still think of myself as new in the Cape waters but except when currents change at different depths, my experience in boat diving is all good.

You can do this when doing your Christmas shopping too:
1. relaxed breathing for 1 min
2.then breathhold and walk for 30 -45 sec. It works. (Select your intervals). and remember you're training for a return trip! (Down and back up) have some air/time over.

Perhaps explain to your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend what youre up to!

Hi Lenny.I have been diving close to 30years.If there is one thing I have learnt and also teach at my spearo school is to take your time to getting deeper-allow your body to ajust meter by meter. This will prevent your body going into shock and create a blockage and then you will increase your depth even slower.Other key factors is learning to glide, alignment of head(going straight down to your target),doing a perfect duck dive and relax relax relax....These little key factors will allready give you improvement in depth. So if you do have time to train then spend it to get the these key factors perfect..

Hi Jim.I do not want to do some marketing here, but phone Deep thinker 0826896895 he was one of my students.

Howsit okes!
Had a lekker weekend at elands! friday night we drove up to yzerfontein...had afew too many drinks, woke up saturday morning and went to skaap eiland for a quick surf..waves were really messy but got one or two good ones...then drove to elands and there were no waves whatsoever! lucky it was crystal clean and i had my diving gear with...so jumped in and got a couple of kreef for supper....(was surprised at how few decent sized kreef there were....) only saw one hottie....then surfed surfed and surfed some more..... hope everyone got a good dive or two in!

Rooiels was great yesterday. I was in the water about 2 hours before the tide turned. Crystal clear. Someone else had been busy there as there wernt many large bugs. I found mine in deeper water. The viz deteriorated rapidly after the tide turned. Saw Galeon, Red Stenbrass, White musselcracker and heaps of hotties. Galeon is off-limits at the mo but they were a nice size. On my way out i met guys fishing crays with what looked like swimming pool poles with bait bags! Thats a first for me. back in the office today.

Went Saturday out to the Sea point area.Water was about 10 degrees and crystal clear.Jump in shot 10 hotties.Average size 2kg and 1 motherF.. of 2.5kg.Sunday jumped in at Grotto .Water clean top to bottom which is not normal at this place.I quickly got 4 kilo kreef in about 7m of water. The krief was very deep in holes.

sounds good! always wanted to dive grotto! if you walk along the beach for long enough (maybe theres a road now) theres a little cove with some kelp that always looks good! i suppose if melkbos is clean and flat...drive to grotto!

cool thanks for the tips! I'll definately try concentrate on those. Another question is how do you know when you are ready to move on to the next depth. What should you be able to do say at that depth.

Bring the thickest wetsuit you have cos it is a lot colder down here. Bring a short gun (for the kelp, as its quite dense in most areas) and a longer say 1.1 for more open water. Species depends where you dive: Hotties (alot of the time), White Stumpnose, Wildeperd, Roman, Blacktail, Yellowtail, and if you are really lucky - Steenbrass red and white, Kob, and Cracker, . (Galjoen is out of season)

My dive report: Water nice and clear at Soetwater, took out some kreef and shot a hottie which we ate for supper (and i discovered that I don't really like fresh hottie! way too musclee for my liking, slightly mushy and not very opage. I think I'll freeze it next time!)
