went for a dive off clifton 2nd beach yesterday - awesome clean water, plenty hotties and i was even lucky enough to sit on a rock next to a huge cuttlefish at 7 meters :)

This weekend 2 buddies and i are hoping to get a dive in at neptunes dairy in the nature reserve...theres usually lots of hotties (1kg +)and plenty kreef! nice dive reports guys....and some lekker kreef there! congrats on the black tails!

I'm prepareing kreef for alot of people on Christmas that means I'm gonna be diving for my quota: Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Anyone keen on joining for some kreefing, give me a shout, I'll probally go to soetwater cos I don't really have the time to experiment with new spots (I know I can catch a full bag there in a relatively short time): Saturday from 12, Sunday from 12, Monday early.

ill give u a call man, even if its for a viz report...cos im planning on going early saturday and maybe sunday...

Lenny i might join you for a sunday morning trip , i'll give you a shout (dont mention leave you evil man)

Hi Lenny, Im veeery keen on Sunday. I was on my way up to Tittiesbay, but would prefer to try a new hunting ground. Where is Soetvater. (Hermanus??) Anyone intending to take a gun along?. I probably have space in my car if anyone else wants to come along.
Jim (Id also like to meet you,..Capetownguy and rbotes).

Hey you welcome to join me I'll probally leave although I'm only gonna be able to leave here 11/12am if thats okay with you guys.

Soetwater is just past the lighthouse on the scarbrough side of Kommetjie. It is the biggest Kelp forrest I know of! It stretches like 500m out to sea. Its mostly quite shallow, slopping from the beach to 8-10m right at the back (600m out). The size of the kreef does not really compare to the stuff you catch on the west coast, but when I started diving I was living in Fish Hoek so it's sort of all I'm used too. You have to use bait bags because the bottom is like round stones and you will just never find the kreef if you don't use bait. Limpets are plentiful and work the best.

There are monster hotties, but it is a huge shlep dragging your gun through the kelp. (I don't have a smaller gun than a 1.1) So I have decided to do either or. I either take my gun or a dive for kreef, because taking your gun, plus float, plus 6m line, plus three coke bottle bouys, each attached to baitbags and 6m of rope gets a bit much, and then you still have to swim 400mx2 like that!

In some places there are massive Galjoen and Steenbrass(depending on the wind). Unfortunately soetwater is not known for it's great viz, but it has sand patches and in one place the viz will be 1m and 20m away it will be crystal clear.Generally there is pretty good kreef, fish and viz right at the back of the kelp. So ya that's Soetwater.

I'll probally be going there today and sunday, My kreefing buddy and I would like to try a west coast spot like Grotto on Monday, has anyone dived Grotto before?

Oh, for those who don't know my number is 0727315832
See ya on the beach!

Hello is anyone still alive! Got no calls from anybody. Reece I can't seem to get through to your phone, the call always fails. But anyways:

Went diving Kommetjie on Saturday, sucky viz, no kreef, but huge schools of big hotties where following me everywhere attacking my baitbags. I even tried to ctach em with may hands! (I did not take my gun of course!:head)

Today, went to soetwater, caught my full quota of kreef (8) in shallow water, nice sizes too. I also think I saw a Gallie, it was hard to make out with the viz not looking so good in that particular spot. Checked out this nice deep open spot which aparently has nice hotties, Just looking for a buddy who will go explore it with me.

Going through to soetwater tomorrow if any one want's to go shoot hotties or collect kreef. I'm gonna do both.

Hey Lenny sorry mate i gave you the wrong number! its 074 194 4228 not 074 914...eish! Ended up doing shopping and painting etc for xmas yesterday so didnt have time (saw the biggest school of hotties i've ever seen on saturday at Vulcan rock off houtbay while doing a scuba - it was insane, gazzilions of fish!)

I'm heading up the west coast again to saldanha this afternoon for xmas with the folks, then heading back to town tommorrow morning...then back to saldanha again on friday...somewhere in there i'll be hitting the waters hopefully...

:cool::cool: Hi, with the Chrismas chaos I had to go for something closer. Rooiels was good. I found four "ok" kreef but had to go quite deep for them. The viz was fine. Ive never seen so many seals! swarms! The fish wernt too phazed. I was on my way out this morning but hell the SE is howling so I went to work. Id like to try Soeties soon. Ill watch this space.
Heres wishing you guys a blue Christmas!

Wilhelm

Interesting reading Lenny's input about Soetties, Makes me curious. I'm thinking of heading off to Kommetjie today to try the forest he mentions. My daughter caught her first crayfish yesterday:D at Hangklip and is keen to try again! As you know the area well. what do you or others think of todays conditions there?

Sorry Guys, I've been so out of touch, I'm staying in Smitswinkel bay.(AKA Cape Spearfishing Paradise), so no cellphone reception or internet. Will probally be going back soon. If anyone wants to join me for a dive it would be really cool cos I'm little edgey diveing alone. I have seen Wildeperd, Monster Gallie!(Typical), some butter fish. Have only been diving very close to the shore on the reserve side. If I have ever wanted a shark shield it's now!:)

Hey guys, I have a new years resolution for us. It's something that bothers people like me, who like to have averything in it's place. This thread is really all about spearfishing in Cape Town, but we have it under freediving buddies around Africa and the red sea. And in the spearfishing section there is subsection just for South Africa. Perhaps we should migrate our discussions there for the sake of not confussing new comers?
What do you guys think?
