Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
have a look at my thread ¨under for sale¨, this guy wants to sell a whole bunch of stuff (spearfishing and Scuba), There is a wetsuit and a shark shield I am particularly interested in. I only got about R1000-R1500 to spend, but he will sell the whole lot for R5500. So you can read what my idea is.

Sorry mate dunno about the prices, perhaps wait for someone more knowledgeable to pop by there...

What are those two guns worth :

0.9 and 1.2 Rabitech plus reel
line, float and stringer

What model is Apex or stealth.
The .9 is about R700
and the 1.2 about R1200 or something to that like, but phone Louis and get more market related prices from him...
I havent bought diving equipment in quite a while :blackeye

Hi all
I am a newbi to spearing in CPT, bt am keen to wet my guns and get any sort of fish for the braai.
does any one know any good spots around Cpt that are producing any fish at the moment? And if any one is keen for a dive soon im there!
peace

Hi Brett,
Depending on where you live, joining a club is the best thing you could do to increase your spearing opportunities. The Bellville and False Bay clubs are about your best bet.
They both meet on Wednesday nights at 8pm (although the False Bay membership has dwindled some).
Here you will get the chance to go dive and learn with some experienced chaps and often get a site for a boat dive.
The beer is also cheap ............ :)

Hey man
Welcome, lekker to have more cape town spearos!
clubs are great, i was a member of the false bay club for about a year, they organise competitions (very fun!!!! even for new spearos) all over the place...stilbaai one is great!!!! i couldnt afford to go anymore cos of petrol from tableview to the club every week , plus there weren't that many spearos pitching up at the time...

had an awesome dive on saturday!!!!! didnt shoot anything tho as i was going for galjoen and saw none, only saw some hotties (about a kilo), a wildeperd (about 1.5kg) and some blacktail (also about a kilo), viz was top to bottom at about 10 - 12 metres (i estimated ;).
We dived rooikranz, ive always wanted to dive there during tail season and this year i will. The fact my dive buddy saw a great white there on the cliffs once put me off diving there, but its so beautiful i just had to do it....only mission is walking down the cliff with diving gear, and then back up after the dive!!!!! (suppose you could kit up, and swim from the kranz to buffels or visa versa) we swam to platbank and back tho as the galjoen are usually plentiful there.....
didnt see any sharks ;) hehe, but summer is prolly a differnent story with sharks and fisherman getting in the way! but if you stick to the platbank side of rooikranz then they shouldnt be a problem (the fishermen im mean ;)

anyone else have any success or stories from diving there? will be lank interested to know!

peace

Hey CPT I thought u sold your gear?
Platbank sounds awsum! Work has just been nuts! but I'm soon due for a break so if you wanna go again give me a shout:)

Well i dont think any one will be spearing after todays storm almost drown on the golf course.... I live in tokai so i will definately give the false bay guys a call
Not so keen on the whole shark vibe, never had any problems in SA or masambique with sharks while spearing
Do any of you carry powerheads?

yup i did, but sold it to michael on condition i can use it when i like until i leave for the uk ;) shweet deal! haha
will definately let you know next time we go!

Oh BTW
Hey Brett, nice to meet you dude, I look forward to joining you on a dive or vise versa:)

hehe, I have been trying to make one for years, nobody can tell me how. Also I suspect that if a GW wants to take a bite out of you you will only know about it when it is to late :):blackeye:crutch

lots of guys carry them, my wetsuit even has a pouch in the sleeve custom made for one, but i've never had one, illegal to buy them i think dunno about making them or owning them.....but theres posts on the net that tell you how. off the top of my head i would say you take a shotgun shell and put wax on it to make it waterproofe...then a piece of hosepipe on the bottom with wax in that too, this gets put on the end of your gun by pushing the spear through the wax and bobs your uncle! dont take my word for it, its prolly not correct, best to check on the net!

I think i would have more chance making a light bulb than an opperational powerhead, think i i made one it would hit the GWS it would smile and it would be eagle-sushi
Should test it one on a klipvis first to make sure it works...lol
Im keen to wet my spears when the water clears, and might try get down to plett nxt week...sweet

Powerhead for dummies. 9mm jammed and waxed into a small gauge hosepipe (10mm) about 9cm long. Pop it over the spear tip when needed. Theoretically the spear become the firing pin. I carried then for few for years in the 80s and 90s, even put it on a couple of times (KZN) never had to use it. I no longer bother today. It wont work on a klippie and it buggers your spear should you fire it.

Was in Plet freediving over the weekend. Awsome viz off Robberg. Played with seals. water was 17 deg. enjoy!

Right boys, lets hear what's happening this weekend? I hear Bellville has a comp on. Anyone got details? Louis phoned me on wednesday and said he would give me details yesterday but I must have missed his call so i'm all in the dark. (Not that i really think i will be able to shoot anything worth weighing in but, I would love to join in on the fun)

Went for a dive two weeks ago at Millers with two guys from houtbay that I met on facebook. Anyways what an awsum dive! pretty clean clear water about 15m viz. Swam out to those two rocks that stick out 50m behind the back row of kelp, where I shot a John Brown. Also missed nice big hottie I guess about 1kg. We then swam 50m out to the left to a small little reef where we saw a nice big gallie, some wildeperd. James shot an awsum Roman 1.5-2kg. I saw one a bit smaller, but blew my chances of getting him when I chased him into his hole and then ran out of breath. On the way back I shot the biggest butter fish I have ever seen. It's gonna make two very tasty fillets, batered and fried. All in all an awsum dive! :)

Also another question for those who have shark shields. That green light on the side of the unit, it is supposed to flash right?
