If anyone is going spearing be sure to count me in, This weekend is my off-weekend! Finally

CPT guy, did you go on the North Paw trip?

I went for a dive at smits on wednesday, The water was very rough which made for quite a hairy exit and entry from the rocks. But the viz was not too bad. Didńt see too much fish, i suspect the water may be a it little cold. Allan said that the trekers where catching tons of tail last week. The trekkers actually say contrary to popular belief that it is not the SE that will bring the tail into the bay, but the NE! interesting....

Nope didnt go buddy.....winds been SE the whole week.....so atlantic side should be ok ...... but dont think ill dive unless i hear a report.... petrol price is high! hehe

Anyone getting wet this weekend? winds been SW for a couple of days now....and is staying like that till sunday....
Perhaps false bay will be clean?!

So sunday is Surfing day then.....
Tomorrow is diving day.....think im gna get in at melkbos for a kreef dive.....

No ways, and all this time i thought it was overs! Where did you find this out?

How was the melkbos dive?

Always been like that dude.....
didnt dive melkbos hey...went surfing instead ,waves were huge!
need a dive tho! wanna try smits sometime, but only when its clean!

Dived there again last monday, was a bit dissapointed. Took out lots of huge alikreukel but thatś about it. Saw a few undersize gallies and undersize romans. Huge Pearly! very temptingI

I rekon one needs a canoe so that you can get to the reefs that are further out. But then sharks also are a factor. Of course if you are there when the tail come through you are smiling, cos they swim almost right up onto the beach.

My next dive there I would like to try that second reef we swam out to. Either that or try Millers.

Smits is also probally the cleanest spot in the whole of this side of false bay, at least it is always diveable.

Ya , definately wanna give them reefs a go again....
just have to wait for the viz...almost winter tho :)

Hi, guys! I’m from Latvia (one of the Baltic states). I’m with envy reading Your posts about blue water and visibility 10-40 m while in our Baltic sea I’m happy for visibility 1,5- 3 m J.
However I have finally decided- SA is the place where I want to go in my next vacations. So I got a lot of questions.
What time is best for spearfishing (wind, waves, weather) in your area? Im thinking about period from October- February. Whitch of these months would You suggest?
Next question- destination. Cape Town or Port Elizabeth?

Hi Rios
To be quite honest Im not definately sure but maybe October time would be better due to summer winds in December time, but like with everything else it will be hit and miss with the weather, you mite end up having almost no diveable days and the day after you leave or the day you leave everythings perfect. Destination Id go with PE, Garden Route area for shore dive opportunities Cape town area during December is very busy and theres more fish in Garden Route area. For blue water Cape Towns your place and Stillbay on Garden Route could also be a possibility.
Hope that helps.

Hey man...
Depends what kind of diving you're looking for....october still has some westerley and south westerly winds....november, december, jan, feb all will predominantly be south easterly winds, good for atlantic dives i.e. Cape town.....
October westerleys and south westerleys clean up the garden route area......
You can get onto some spearfishing charters which would be great for you in my opinion.....shooting anything from hotties to yellowtail to yellowfin tuna.....
good luck...
personally I would come to Cape Town :)

Thanks for all the replies!
I'm thinking about some shore diving mostly. So it would be great to hook up with some of You- locals for some hunt.
About weather it's just a matter of chance. So the only way to solve this problem is a very long vacations :D
capetownguy- could You give me some more info about spearfishing charters?

I've never been on one, but the man to talk to on DB us Miles....you will find his name on this thread somewhere....pm him and he will be more than happy to help you out!
Im leaving for the UK this year sometime, but if im here when you still are, i will be more than happy to go on a couple of shore dives...

capetownguy- o.k. I will ask about blue water to Miles.
I don't know yet when exactly I will be in SA, but I'll let You know because I won't miss a chance to meet new friends.
