If you rig your line so that you can unclip it you won't have to worry so much about shooting down the middle of a fish. I did this once and you're right, it's dead hard getting your spear out. Landed on some rocks untied the line and pulled it right through in the end and had to re-tie. Took ages.

Now I use a quick release catch thingy so I can unclip, pull the line through the fish (if required) and quickly re-attach line to the gun.

I use to have a clip on my rob allen but since adding a reel to it i couldn't really use the clip which was on it. I am trying to sort out a new clip though so i can unclip my line again.

Spaniard, i have to say that the spots that i know around polzeath that are worth a go are all dependent on the surf. If the surf is up then i have never bothered, but when its been flat, i have seen loads of fish hen just snorkling around the main areas.

Nice Fish Gutshot!

Did you hear on the national news today about the fella who took the photo of the great white shark off towan head in newquay? It turns out, or so the news said, that the picture was false and was taken while he was in south africa a while back!

Who would of thought it!!! rofl

The right hand side of the bay at Polzeath (out towards Pentire Head) can be very fishy, but as Huw says, whether it is diveable depends on the swell. Otherwise any of the bays or coves either side of the estuary are well worth a look. give me a shout if you want a guide
I dived a new offshore reef in the far west yesterday. Fantastic ground, flat calm and 40ft + viz, but very few bass. I missed one of about 7lb, and got 2 around 3lb, but didn't see much else. Lots of big pollack, so I took a couple up to 10lb and also got a big red mullet, which appeared out of nowhere in mid water
cheers

Sounds like a pretty decent dive Dave, how large was your red mullet??? Did it fall to the one shot, or did it do the rip off trick and take a second?? I managed to bag my first one a few week back... then cooked with sweet chilli sauce - it was spot on!

I have an opportunity to spend a couple of days with a family in Polzeath. Other than it being full of tourists is there any decent spearing spots nearby? I won't have access to a boat. Cheers.

Try the inlet just round the headland to the east between polzeath and port issac.? port quin? but i forget. easy access and parking with some nice weed at the entrance holding bass sometimes.

Hi guys, there is a possibility of a space being open on a rib for this weekend diving the Plymouth area and even maybe out to the Eddystone. If anyone is interested then let me know on a first shout basis. We will be there about 10-11pm tonight right through till Sunday afternoon. A donation towards outboard fuel would be appreciated. Options for a mooring and triple room or camping in a sea access only cove are on the table
Cheers

Sounds like a great weekend mate hope you have a good un.:friday

Heading down to Falmouth tomorrow with my mate, gonna take the rib and spend the day sniffing around the area.I'll report if we're successful.

Been in quite a bit lately but not had much success.Gonna try portreath today tho so will report back later.chow

Been on holiday for the last two weeks. Castle beach (5+ vis, bass, mullet, pollack, large starfish, ob. wrasse) this Monday and picked up a bug which kept me out of the water for a couple of days. Went to Rosemullion on Thursday (the first day I felt up to doing any diving). Got to the beach but the cows had been down there and there was a nasty slick of cow poo on the water! Had to walk back to the car and try Castle again hoping the tides had cleaned the water :) If anyone has walked to Rosemullion from Mawnan church and back again with full kit (plus three girls and a wife) then they'll know how knackered I was by the time I got back to the car :) Vis at Castle was poorish at around 2-3 metres and was hard to see anything ecept wrasse. I did see a common lizard near the sea wall which was nice as I'd not seen one down there since the early eighties. Hayle yesterday just for the girls to have some fun in the surf. Today I'm back to Falmouth to get some wetsuit repair cement but.

Still no speargun. Still need a payrise :) Has anyone used the Cazador 75 from Dave? How about one of those foldspears from Apnea? Anyone fancy a swap for a beautiful Cometa 400 Fenix .22 air rifle with a good 40mm 3-9 scope?

after missing out on a monster shoal bhen my wishbone broke i've been toying with a second band mainly as a spare,
let me know how it goes

hey anyone ever tried to double band a 90 cressi sub comanche? i have bought a beuchat 16mm double band and am going to try it on my comanche. do you think that will work ok? thanks

No personally I wouldn't use two bands on XXV Gold, or on a 90cm in general. I'ts a stress for the trigger, a stress for the barrell, and what you gain in power you loose in accuracy (also consider that the punch of two bands give double recoil:

Took the rib down to Maenporth first thing and headed straight to a spot i'd been keen on trying.Even as we anchored we could see fish below us and straight from the start they were everywhere. The tide was dropping pretty fast and the current was heading along the point and out to sea but it was doable and every drop seemed to pull in bass.I refrained from shooting anything for a while as i was sure there were some bigguns around but ended up getting 3 bass and swimming back to the boat to find my mate had 2 bass and 2 mullet. We checked out another spot which was a bit quiet so decided to head back to the point again.Picked up another 3 bass and my mate got 2.
Bloody good day,all went smoothly and no hitches at all.Vis was 3-5 meters and lovely and warm.

Measured a selection of 4 of my 90cm band guns. The longest with the spear in and a stopper on the end is 142cm. The other 3 were all under 140cm.
