Although this winter has been one of the stormiest on record it has also been one of the mildest and if we have a really hot summer we could see record coastal sea temperatures with all sorts of interesting species showing up.

Nice one Podge, glad you had a good time, sorry to have missed you though! I haven't been down to work over the last couple of days... too much revision to do :head
Let me know when your down in August... i don't know about showing you how to do it... ( I could do with some pointers myself) but there will be no problem giving you a boat trip out to some of the quieter bays and rocks with me and my buddy.

But remeber other native fish will hed off somewere else for colder! Not good.
I have taken Bass and massive mullet at the rocky entrance to the estuary.
You can't go wrong with any rocky shore dive around there. Watch out for boat traffic though.

Is this the Max i think it is? Any how, we will need at least a few days of calm weather and calm seas before the vis clears up. The wind is blowing right into the right hand part of the mouth, and the kelp is in bloom still, so hold off untill that has subsided.
I dived that spot last wednesday, me and my buddy both had some large mullet, but that was pretty much all we saw in over 4hours of being in the water.
The rain also means that muddy water up from Lostwithiel comes down and we get loads of silt in the mouth; to be honest i can't see the vis clearing up this week unfortunatley.
What gun were you using?

hi huw yes its max billingsley! me and luke ismail both got guns on monday from pentewans ocean sports shop. we have been out a couple times this week but at the beginning of the week the visibility was pretty bad but still sort of fishable but yesturday i couldnt even see my feet at pridmouth!!

Took the boat out on the south coast today. First and only stop was a wreck in 50'. Thick plankton top to bottom. After about 20 minutes of banging my head on bits of steel in 2' viz and seeing no fish at all I gave up

Weather for this week looks to be shaping up... thinking that the vis will be clearing over the next couple of days. Reports say that the wind is dying steadily from now untill friday, with wednesday onwards having little more than a breeze.
Any luck and by Wednesday we should start to be seeing some decent diveable (and more importantly - fishable) water - you guys agree, or reckon the plankton and kelp will still be messing it up? I'm sure than the wind and rain has been causing the bad viz more than the bloom (at least around my area).
With the tides in account, Wednesday and Thursday evening seem to be a safe bet (fingers crossed)!
Can't wait to get back in (between exams!)

Ahhh that cool... i have never seen a pollack that size in that depth, just proves that they aren't strictly deep water fish.
Just launched the boat this morning (finally!) after hundreds spent on engine repairs and checkovers, and put it on the mooring ready for action. The water was very flat and weather was brilliant - little wind at all. The clarity didn't seem amazing, but possibly fishable.
May trip it over to some local bays this evening to see if a dive tomorrow or the day after will be on the plan.
Anyone getting in today?

Hi all long time no post! Nickever been stealing all the limelight with his pb bass:vangry . Managed to get in tonight down carbis bay beach. Vis pretty poor 1-2 metres at best,saw couple of bass 1 of which was takeable but after scanning around for my 2 newby mates he was long gone[didnt fancy spearing either of my friends]. Tailed by an over friendly seal all session
,highlight of the night really! Still nice to get wet and a beautiful sun set to. Maybe try again tomorrow night......actually i doubt it as i forgot i had to drop wife to st erth and she aint talking to me at mo!!!!:rcard Tight lines all
