Cornwall 2007!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Had a little look around on the north coast this afternoon.Plenty of schoolies but all either on or under the limit but it was nice seeing so many bass. The best part of it though was when i was heading in i got startled by a seal that had appeared from nowhere and seemed a little lively.I tried swimming at him to make him back off a bit but he just loved it.Got into swimming in circles with it and playing around and then it'd dart into the kelp and seem to hide and then fly out again try and grab my fins.Anyway,we played around for probably 45 minutes until right into the shallows. It was without doubt the hightlight of my spearing experiences and walking back up the beach i couldn't give a damn about getting no fish.

ok right now i am FINALLY here i would love to know if there are any spearfishing shops in Cornwall. i am staying near to Launceston. i have been informed there is a shop in Bodmin? Dave from spearo.co.uk ? i would love to know if there are any more around and about? thanks a lot

I think Daves mobile number is on his site - just give him a call he will probably be able to sort out all your kit and give you some ideas for spots aswell. You can PM him here as he is a DB member - his id is just 'dave'. Look back four posts on this thread and you will see him!! He is based in Bodmin.

From my experience Dave normaly has all the gear at his house and i'm sure if you rang him he'd be abale to sort you out with everything you're likely to need in terms of mask, snorkel, fins guns etc etc. He's also likely to give you sound advice regarding popular locations and current vis.
Good luck anyway!

hi im new to the forum and i was just wondering wat are the best spots in cornwall to catch some nice bass and a bit of a random question do you catch cod in the winter over in cornwall i live in brighton im 16 years of age and my name is calico a very keen spearo thanks guys

Fishermen regularly get cod off the beach in the winter at Porthleven, but it is rare to get it calm enough to dive at that time of year.

My ears have started playing up in the last week (years of surfing and diving taking its toll); I have been looking back through the posts in this thread and a scalp lotion is mentioned as a treatment.
My mate used this and swears by it, but the tuppy cant remember the brand name. I have done a google search and come up with 'Betamethasone' - has anyone used this particular product?

hey thanks a lot cazer but what if i was to buy some gear off him? i want
1. stringer (seatec or the Rabitech speed)
2. rubber weight belt (seatec)
3. Muzzel boingie + swivel
4. Spearo T-shirt
5. possible float if small enough
6. line for real depending on the price

All bollox mate, same story comes out every year! Photos are of a basking shark. I'm not saying it's not possible that the man in the grey suit is out there, but not off the back of Sun/Mirror stories......

The scalp lotion i have is called Elocon and i got it from the pharmacist.I've also got some stuff called swim ear which is basically the same stuff. They both mainly consist of isopropyl alcohol. They both work pretty well.Google 'swim ear' and you shouldn't have any trouble.

Over a week ago i had an amazing dive and have yet to post the details...!

2). 1x small plaice
3). 2x flounder 2lbs ish
4). 1x Red mullet - not a monster, but my first ever!
5). 1x 3lb thicklip mullet

Hi Jonny, I have seen your post appear on a few threads, I don't live in England but it would appear to be the same situation over here. There are a few small sports shops that dabble in spearfishing equipment but they just don't specialise, I buy most of my gear online. I know you want to actually go in to a shop & choose your kit & I am sure we all would like that as well but it would seem Dave is your best bet. I think there is a dive shop in Portland & there is most defiantly one in Jersey but I know of none in Cornwall? However I would be extremely surprised if there was not some sport shops that did sell a few bit & pieces?

hey,
yeah i live out in Dubai and we do have about 4 shops that sell gear but they dont sell THE gear that i want float lines etc. for a cheap price! i saw you are interested in aspearfishing trip in dubai would love to go but to me 2000 quid seems extremely expensive just for 24 hours? its also illegal in dubai :P but yeah thanks for your help anyways. its not the fact paying online it is the fact that i have to pay an extra 8 quid for shipping when i am staying only 10 minutes drive away from him! ill give him a call and see if i can sort something out thanks for your help :D
