Thanks for your suggestions, I have googled them up & to be honest every where looks great!
However the plan is now swaying towards 4 nights in the Porth veormanor hotel (in fact already booked) & 3 nights in Plymouth.
I have been enjoying looking at all the hotels & then checking for bad reports on the net & although I love the idea of tiny harbour hotels I also like the look of the real big ones in Plymouth & some of them have amazing reports.

Most guys would be using a single band 90, plenty of models to choose from, depends on budget? Another option is to stick with an air gun but upgrade to super smooth & powerful mamba 90?

Of the single band guns available, i'd have to recommend a Seatec Gabbiano 90.

I have really tried to buy a new gun each year but i just can't do it.It's a sturdy feeling gun that has never let me down.If i was to buy another gun it'd be a shorter version for murkier days.Quite a few DB members have them and they seem to have a very loyal following.

(and of course,anything to steer you away from the darkside!)

You can buy the Seatec Gabbiano from Dave at www.spearo.co.uk - although you might have to wait a few weeks for it to arrive.

He fishes in cornwall himself, so is pretty clued up on the area and is happy to offer advice (although, obviously, he is going to try to sell you a brand that he supplies).

Speak to him on the phone before you order, if you decide to go down that route.

Could someone pm me where the Bass will be next weekend and for the following 2 weeks. I'm on holiday and plan to get an early Bass. If you could reply with location and approx time please so I don't have to get too cold rofl

This is of course assuming the current flat spell continues and I can't use my board :head ...

On a serious note where from experience do they show first? I know the south coast usually is the location for the early ones but is this due to more spearos being out on the south coast, or is there evidence to show they move in on the south coast first. Also is there any reason why they should be further up the channel into Devon, Dorset??

My folks rate the Copthorne and especially the tour around the Plymouth Gin factory on the Barbican:friday:friday. Worth a look and a sample.

I have 4 guns and a 7ft band powered pole spear and they would all go to save my Gabianno! I have the 90 version and compared to my Sommap, JBL and Spearo Venom guns it stands in a totally different league, superb!
I've pimped mine throughout with camo duct tape but with 20mm bands POWER!!!! Go for it, quality from the moment you hold it. Will be getting a shorter version of the Gab for murky days if Spearo dave will still talk to me after the wetsuit wars episode - peace.

Hey scott when i started spearing I made a pole spear and Id highly recommend it, its hard but really satisfying catching stuff with a home made spear.

(mine was a bamboo pole with the end of a kitchen knife in the end and a bungee cord from b and q). lol Just make sure you have better barbs than mine did I lost a really nice Bass cos it got off it.

Off to make the most of the light winds and sun to get a dive today. It will give me a chance to try out the camera (don't expect any fishy shots) and to get my for the first time since the end of nov!

I was not expecting much which was just as well. The viz was good up to about 8m in places but the fish were not there! Only a few small pollock. I was just heading over to my mullet spot when i noticed i small leak in the camera housing by the camera shutter button so i got out. The camera seems fine but i am soaking the housing to check it out before i get set to return it. Apart from the small leak the video footage was quite good. Well pleased but before i take any camera in the water i will try the housing empty first! A close call today.

Scot, what batteries do you use and how long do they last? I have rechargables which got an hour of the camera in standby with about 7 mins worth of film. How does that compare?

Here is a still i took. Shows you the view on the gun. This is my smaller venom gun. I will wait till i get my kayak out before i pull out my rob allen.

Oh, i also dived for thefirst time with ear plugs in! I have no idea why i have never done it before :head. Vented Docs proplugs before anyone asks. Warm inside ear the whole dive and bone dry when i got out. I think i just reduced my time out of the water after the op!!
