I've never ever seen a lobster - do they really exist?!

How often do you find them and whats a good spot to check?

It certinly sounds as if there is enough to get me in!

Best,

Any local wreaks pips gullys, they are one of them things you just dont see meny of keep an eye out and one will come

Ah that's interesting to hear stuff is still around over the winter months!

Has anyone been in recently? I've been doing a fair bit of freedive training in our uni pool with our dive club, so i'm itching to get in the sea again when term ends!

TomH, what kind of distances are you achieveing in the pool? always nice to know what everyone else is doing.

I get around 50m DNF and 76m DYN.

Yes DNF = Dynamic No fins, DYN = Dynamic with fins, and done in a 25 metre pool. Should really be pushing more than 50m with no fins but no luck

(thanks dave)

Think i need a proper breathing warmup, and packing but not sure where im going with that.

I've only just started, i've not tried a maximum attempt yet. We usually just do a few sets with decreasing recovery times. The pool is 35m and I can do complete lengths reasonably easily so hopefully I could get about 50m or so.

As for no fins, i'm hopeless! I have really bad technique, probably couldn't make much more than 25m!

Hopefully i'll be able to see some improvement with training though!

What's your best dry static time?

Yeh decreasing recovery is great training mate. Only ever done static in pool and my best time is 4:02, not great by any means. I find doing dynamics without fins is so much less stressful and much more enjoyable, but i guess each to their own

I'm at uni in Bristol at the moment. Our dive club use the uni pool some evenings so I go along then and train.

I'd be interested in training in Cornwall though when I'm back (12th Dec) if anyone is keen / knows somewhere we could use fins?

I asked at Carn Brea (Camborne, Redruth) pool a few years back and they didn't allow freedive training either with or without fins.

Everyone - the leg is healing well and the cast is off but I'm still walking with crutches. Hoping I'll be crutch free for xmas as I'd like to be out shooting (rabbits) if not spearing. Thanks for all the best wishes etc.

Glad you are recovering mate, lets hope you are up & running for Christmas.

I doubt the vis is too good at Carn Brea :yack. You'd only get me in there with a full face mask and scuba gear rofl

Good to hear you are on the mend mate!

Is any one still spearing in the far south west? Seems early for some of the diehards to be hanging up the kit? ... mind not been the best of weather.

Hey Pav. I got in last friday, viz was like soup but divable and alot better than been dragged around the shops with the other half lol

A brief lull in the howling onshore winds and I pounce!

Went in for a night dive this evening out of desperation. cold, incredibly murky, some swell which led to some motion sickness (def only effects me at night).

I got excited when i saw a 4" pollack that's how much sea life i saw.

Id say it was good to get in but im not sure lol

Wow, not sure how but i didnt get an email telling me there had been posts on the forum. I thought it had been dead. I have not speared since my last epic towards the end of sept. College is giving me loads of work and i am still working part time so any spare time is limited. The weather has been awful on my free days. The good news is that i have been getting some great waves.

I will still get in for a spear if the conditions look ok but it is surf all the way this weekend.

I took my gear with me and looked at the water in Dorset today - and then turned around and went home!
