Just got back from my first dive of the year.Vis was well doable 5m or thereabouts.Saw quite a few mullet straight off the bat and nailed one within a couple of minutes of getting in.Had a little scout about and saw a few more mullet and the odd wrasse.Well pleasent day, wasn't as cold as i was expecting.
Got one of Dave's Spearo Venom suits and i'm pretty impressed with it, obviously not like my old elios but for the price it was very impressive.
So good to be back in and glad i didn't blank my first dive!

FIRST BLOOD!!!!!
Must be our lucky day. Did a couple of hours reef work on the south coast with my modified Sioux 60. As Badlander states, there were a lot of mullet about. Spent a while stalking the ghostly shapes but they were spooked. Went further out and bagged my first Plaice, or should I say, my first fish with a speargun:friday. Not the biggest of fish, but still legal and a bloody milestone for me considering how long I've been looking for flattiesrofl

Nice work Lazuli and congrats on the Plaice, one of the best eating fish there is in my opinion.
Is that a picture on the bottom of your post, as I all I’m getting is the dreaded red cross?
The Gabbiano Elite uses a larger thread for the 20mm bands, but the standard Gabbiano uses a standard thread. Changing the thread part of the muzzle takes 30seconds and costs about £3

Hi guys!!!!
First dive of the season today - loved it!
Arrived at my spot, and straight away saw a pod of dolphins playing which was a great pleasure to watch, although I was kind of hoping that they hadn't scared all of the fish away.
The vis looked great from the walk down, but I was slightly hesitant to accept that it would actually be as good as it looked. However, sure enough - straight off from the shoreline I was rewarded with outstanding 8-10m vis which was epic.
First 20mins were a little quiet with only wrasse being seen - however it all felt verrryyy 'fishy.'
I tried to stay as alert as possible, and was re-viewing the thousands of youtube spearing videos that i had viewed at my time 'studying' at uni whilst hundreds of miles away from my home hunting grounds.
I was in about 4m of water and going around a large sunken bolder, and came face to face with a good looking bass - 6lbs or so, but somehow managed to not relay the though process of shooting the bloody thing, and it then hovered out of range for 5 seconds or so before scooting off.
Pretty p*ssed off, i realllly focused on what was going on, and then came across a nice shoal of mullet, and bagged one of the largest in the shoal, pretty much stoned him with a spine shot.
About 10 mins later on, I worked up a gulley in stealth mode, and stumbled across a single mullet feeding whilst facing away from me - it was an awkward angle to get a shot, so i blew into my snorkle to make a noise in an attempt to disturb it, and sure enough it stopped and began to turn. I didn't really take any chances and let the shot go - which unfortunately hit a little low. Still managed to grab hold of him, and finished him quickly.
While I was dispatching him I could really clearly hear clicking from the dolphins - which was a little un-nerving - exciting, but a little different. I looked below and above the surface trying to get eyes on them, but no luck at all. I guess they could have been a fair distance away.
After that I figured i'd try the sand flats for some flatties, but no luck there and i decided to call it a day.
Still pretty annoyed about the bass, but all the same, a thoroughly enjoyable dive, and pleased to have taken a few fish on the first dive. Lasted about 1hr 40mins - could easily have managed more if I didn't have plans for tonight... not cold at all.
Its gunna be a good season I can feel it!!!

So the sun is out and its getting interesting again. Not made it in with the spear yet but was in on the board at Perran tonight and really noticed a warmer feel to the water so starting to froth at the mouth for a chance to get wet proper. House sitting in south Devon this weekedn (torquay/babbacombe bay area). Anyone know any spots up there that are worth a look as a first dive of the season?
Dived Falmouth area this morning.Vis was less than i had hoped for but still okay, around 3-5m.Aside from some pretty meaty wrasse i saw very little which considering the temp at 7am when i scuttled down the beach was a little dissapointing.Got pretty cold pretty quickly.
Think i'll try somewhere new tomorrow morning.
