Hope you all had a good winter break, and best of luck for the new season.
The missus and kids are away for the weekend, so I think I'll brave the cold and have my first dip.
Baby due in June, so apparently there'll be less time for me underwater. hmmm.
I get in in the Looe area. would be good to meet up with some of you chaps if the chance arises. I would still put myself in the novice catgory, so am eager to get a few tips.

Can anyone advise on the shore dive inbetween looe island and marine drive? I want to check out the area for launching a kayak (away from the beach and closer to looe island) so may do a shore dive there in the morning. Busting to get in for a wet in the morning but the wind may be a little too much for the kayak.

Went for a south coast dive on a mates boat this morning.
First stop was a favourite reef of mine. Water was a refreshing 8c, but clear, 30-40ft of viz. Lots of small pollack, but not much else. After about half an hour of enjoying the scenery, I was lying on the bottom in the kelp in about 40ft, when I noticed a big blue head staring at me from 2 feet away. I very slowly brought the Venom Apnea 90 down as the fish moved slowly side on. It was so close I had to bring the handle up behind me, and shot it point blank just behind the head. 9.39lb

Dave, thats what i needed to see this evening, to get me back in the water..

I had my first dive of the year today. Didn't put a lot of effort into it. Falmouth area, and just an oportunity to get the kit (and new suit) in the water and check everything was in order.

Bait fish, Wrasse and a lone spide crab... but no targets. Not ideal choice of tide and would have prefered to get in earlier for the lowtide and push.. but at least I got wet and viz was good.

Daves fish is enough to get me back in. Was it an offshore reef?

Got in for a brief reef dive today with my girlfriend. Saw some of the most beautiful Wrasse I've ever seen. No Mullet or Bass seen. Came out with a nice Flounder instead :friday. It was bloody well camouflaged in the sand. I was lucky to spot it.

Hi guys,

Got in today for the first dive of the season down at Kennack Sands. Not hoping for much, just looking forward to getting wet again after avidly reading all the posts this year from you guys! Thanks for keeping me going...

The swell was picking up as the tide pushed but vis was about 3-6 metres so not too bad in places. Expecting the water to be colder than it was and managed a comfortable 2 hours before my hands went numb!

Saw very little early on then hit a spot where a good sized (20-30ish) shoal of mullet were feeding. They were all around the 2-4lb mark and after a few hesitant early season 'shall I or shan't I shoot' moments sizing them up as they kept passing me by, I managed to pick one off. A little later I caught up with them again and bagged another. Thought I saw a bass but couldn't be sure. By then the swell was giving me a bit of a thumping around the rocks so I called it a day, but was well pleased with my two mullet for the first time in the water. My ever faithful Gabbiano 90 continues to perform - now in its 3rd season!

Feel like the edge has been taken off it after seeing Dave's monster bass but hats off to you on that one!! At least we know they are about....

PS: Just rather impulsively bought a Hero 5 Go Pro underwater camera as I fancy taking some footage this year. Anyone with any info on these?

Hi Nick, well that's pretty much everyone out of the woodwork then! We checked Kennack first thing and opted for Poltesco instead.Actually ended up swimming nearly back to Kennack anyway where i also saw some mullet but wasn't as lucky as you it seems.Vis was pretty good for the amount of movement eh?

Gonna hit somewhere in the morning tomorrow....anyone else in there?

Got back in today after seeing nothing yesterday. Different spot, and first time out at this venue. Lovely looking string weed, but couldn't get my head into fish mode... just seemed so quiet.

Anyway it all turned good with my 1st fish for the season (Mullet approx 5lb). Followed by 2 more. Not Bass but at least all the kit is in order and I have my eye in.

Fingers crossed may find a wave on the North Coast later. Happy Days :friday
