Hehe yeah it was dry, got a broken leg atmBut apparently physio says flippering is good for it so hopefully Ill be able to put all my training into practise soon!
2.30 is my next goal!
Oh yeah, i forgot about your leg. Just as you get in i will be sidelined! :rcard Got my ear op on the 1st of may. I have been diving lately with a vented docs proplug which has not let in any water so far so i am hoping to be back in as soon as my ear is good enough to allow the plug in again. Maybe by the end of may? Mid june latest.

I do suffer from bad sinus trouble with colds but have you tried a nasel spray? I use sudafed which works most of the time and has helped me dive when i would have normally been too blocked up!

I am surprised we dont have a spearos barbeque down here given that we have the best beachesrofl. The possibilities! I've got a field and an outdoor toilet in an isolated location if anyone wants to organise a "Spearo's Rave 2009"????

If it's any consolation I shattered my right leg in about 20 places just above the ankle and had to undergo 6 months of plaster and crutches. I then bust up knee ligaments playing sport and in all underwent about 9 operations on my legs.
I am now 41, overwheight ( or should I say short for my wheight), but still mountain bike, spearfish, play hockey and shoot....oh and 3 kids, a dog and wife.
The swimming is best for you, but I would suggest going in away from rocks as believe me, trying to walk over uneven ground with a leg that has been in plaster is a scary experience!!!!

Got in twice this morning and yesterday in the north coast. Vis was okay. It looked alot better from the shore though. Finally got to see some bass though both dives. One 3-4lb buzzed me and buzzed off again before I could line up and I didn't see him again. Plenty of eel, small and medium mullet around but no more bass. Great dive in the sunset though. Bit fresh after 2hrs in the water though.
Early this morning at a different spot the vis had gone a little worse, picked up some nice spider crabs, saw some fair wrasse and saw bass on the edge of the viz bolt when they heard me.
TO GRUNT OR NOT ? This is the thing that bugs me the most when I'm waiting. I wish I'd never heard about it ?

Conditions looked lovely today nice and calm and sunny :/ Id imagine its a bit choppy on the mounts bay side though Napper being a brisk onshore over there and it doesn't take much to stir things up does it !

Went in off Looe Island this morning. Only wrasse about. Was my second venture with the smallish (bought for the kids) kayak, and faired much better than the first, mainly due to the successful experiment of putting fins and weight belt on before setting off. Although I looked a bit wierd, I was comfortable, and it took all the hastle out of getting kitted up on the kayak to dive. i just dropped the anchor, tied on the paddle, and was off.
It was my first venture off Looe Island, and although no fish, it looked promising. An enjoyable paddle and dive went some way to compensate for no fish this time.
I run a line down the centre of the kayak that has an old dog lead in the middle that makes it easy to open and thread things on to then hook back together. I also have the velcro bit of an old leash at one end of the line to help secure the paddle.
I think there are a few more refinements to go to this set up, but I think I'm now sold on using the kayak as a vehicle for getting to the the right spots.

Good to hear about Looe Island - it was usually spoilt by the seals and we used to fish it twice a year as Looe Sea Angling Club.

Had a cruise around today and eventually decided to pop in at Carbis, plenty of spider crabs about but didn't have my take bag on me, lots of sand eel but no bass/pollack/wrasse, while checking around some weed beds nearly landed on a plaice, quick stab and job done, first fish of the year! Vis wasn't amazing, 1-3 metres but still happy to be in. Want to get in tomorrow but have to work, possibly and evening one as forcast is good. In the process of getting a rib seaworthy for this year, will be launching from Falmouth, does anyone know any marks, dive the shore around here a fair bit but curious for any wrecks/reefs in 50' of water or less. Thanks
Launched the boat today and had a little blast to 'test' her.Had a few comedy moments which is only natural! Got 24knts out of her which was pleasantly surprising. However, will need a second fuel tank for added range and also learn to be economic with the throttle. Stuck her on the mooring at Loe Beach.
Bit of a breeze that i'd imagine would be murking up the falmouth beaches today but looks forecast to ease off a bit in the following days.
I try a bit of grunting with mixed success. I reckon it's knowing when to stop....initially making a noise to bring them into you might work but i find they get a little skitterish if you try grunting one that's close (for bass).Pollock seem to like it but mullet not so....and then sometimes the opposite......Well that's cleared that up then!

If it looks like the fish dont know where you are grunting seems to do well but if they are already onto you it does seem to scare them off a little.
I took the easy option of gaining brownie points today to leave me free for diving tomorrow. Hopefully a full day out on the kayak tomorrow!

Shore diving Falmouth area today to try out my new gun (Cayman Carbon 75). Vis was ok. Went down into a canyon and crept across the weed on the side to try and ambush this ball of nice looking Mullet - but no joy. Many fruitless aspettos followed that. Still, I was able to take a nice flounder. Happy days

It was cool having a longer gun.
In fact the Cayman Carbon 75 is easier to load than my sioux 60rofl. I found the trigger very instinctive and very little recoil was felt upon taking the shot. Sideways tracking probably not as good as the HF2 shapes or the Gabbiano. Its a very accurate gun and i've taken to its open muzzle configuration like a duck to water!! Suits my spearing style (i.e lots of missed shots and frequent reloads!!).
You have to be careful around rocks as the gel-coat on the barrel is easily scratched. In fact I am hoping to start tying my own bands with bulk rubber so I can use the 2 band muzzle and prevent further scratching of the barrel by the French Wishbone it came fitted with.
Anyone (like Rob Allen users) know a good source for the odds and ends needed to make your own bands, wishbones???
Oh, and the safety is a pain to engage with gloved, cold hands. Seems OMER got it wrong there as its a low-profile switch lever.

Had a nice dive this weekend in some cracking vis off the North Coast. I was only slightly dissappointed not to come across any 'take-home' bass, pollack or mullet, but couldn't really care less with visibility at around 6-8m. It's been quite a while since the north shore has been so tranquil.
I came across plenty of spiders but nearly all were female and none were real pan-fillers, so having played with them a while I moved off to a reef to practice some aspetto. Considering this was my first time back in the water my bottom time was surprisingly good. Big groups of pollack in the 1lb bracket in great condition.
Went for a bit af an exploration of the sea bed on the way back in and spooked a nice plaice. Having surfaced to stock up on O2 and gather my thoughts (the hang over had worn off by now), I did a quick search around a sand patch which was heaving with worm casts and found another plaice for dinner.
2 hours, great vis and supper t'boot - Joy!

great choice in gun mate I know you will be very happy with it.
Ive changed the wishbone on mine to a dynmea which has made the gun a lot quieter when shooting .
I know what you mean with the coating, I was gutted to find scratchers along the barrel after only a few dives.
I dont believe in safetys on spearguns.A safe speargun is an unloaded gun and the only time its loaded is when Im on the hunt otherwise its unloaded but I know what you mean about the safety its god damn tiny
