Don't belittle your achievement. I have yet to spear a bream, been close but still no coconut and that's in 40+years of spearing. No one has caught/entered any black bream in the HoF.

I still say well done whatever it weighed.

Jim (stuckinsurrey) and myself used to come down to Cornwall for a long weekend of spearing and drinking before Foxy started the Guernsey fishin’s.
I’d defiantly be up for a 2010 Cornwall spearing break and I’d say that Jim would too.
I reckon that quite a few of the Dorset mafia would also be in for a Cornish break as long as they had enough time to sort it out with holiday times at work.

I will have to hunt out a photo of the Bream I took (3 years ago) on the south cornwall coast. I at the time did not know what it was (I was seeing shoals of them! , when hunting for Bass on 1 particular session). In the end fustrated in lack of Bass I shot one and identified it at the time as a Ray Bream from a book (although I may be wrong.. it was a Bream of some type). It cooked better than Bass, so with this information went back to hunt for Bream.... and guesse what! .. have not seen one since :head .

TODAY - The good viz has passed locally. Down to 2m today at my local spot, although it may have been possible to find better water. Went in with a lobster stick and had a hunt around for shell fish. A lot of edible Crab, but all a a bit small compared to what I'd want to take so left them to grow. The 1 lobster I coaxed out did a runner! Two entrances to his cave and smarter than me.

Also pulled my head into two Congers today! I can never get used to that.

I did pet a few Dog fish today as my hands were free! , they are such docile creatures and welcome company when hunting for shell fish!

Back again. Not been online for sometime now while tyring to get my ear sorted. Bad tinitus still and slightly deaf but slowly getting my hearing back! Not sure what i have missed so i will have to spend some time looking back thru the forum!

Went in for my first dive since the op today. Funny i should read about bream as i saw my first cornish bream today just past a school of mullet. They never got close enough though! I did take my camera in to try out some more stuff and it is working well when i remember to recharge the battaries! 1 Bass and 1 mullet. The camera died on the dive for the bass:head. I could have had more bass but one was head on to me and i was unsure of the size so tried to wait but he bolted! Loads of mullet but only took my usual one. Just sat at home now nursing a slightly sore ear!

Good video gutshot, is that using the digital hero cam?

I got one but had to send the casing back because it leaked on me and nearly ruined the cam!! Waiting for a replacement to be sent out. Nice to see a bit of film on here though - cheers!

Yeah, hero 5. I had the same problem as did scottwilson from the devon board. I sent gopro a question email about maintenence to try and stop leaks and they sent me a reply telling me they were suprised it leaked thru the buttons and asked me to send an email back with a photo of the housing and my postal address. They sent me a new housing. Great customer care!! It took a little while to arrive but they had to send it from the states.

Scott did say something about rinsing his thru with fresh water just before using which helped him! You may want to try that without the camera in the housing. I guess it just depends on how bad your leaks are!

Just to let you know - St Austell Bay is almost a millpool - I would be going in, but wifey is working and I am yakking it later - can't hear the kids when that far out/under the sea!!!

Had a great spear on the south coast as predicted, 2 Bass and a mullet , not massive but they are about to make splendid sushi.

It was one of those days though, forgot my wetsuit had to go back for it, then lost my spear, managed to get it , then dropped it again and lost it for good, spent an hour looking for it but the damn thing just vanished! Was deep enough that when i went down for it the first time my leash wasnt long enough and I overturned my float and lost my spider crab lol.

Still nice to find a new nice spot!

Sounds grim.

Dived north Penwith area yesterday and Lizard today. Nothing much seen except small Pollock. Need to find some fishier areas to improve morale.

Vis is great.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for all your replies on the whole ear perforation thing... I went to the ENT dept at the Duchy Hospital and was told that my ear had no visible perforations but was quite thin and also had a mild infection that would need some alcohol based ear drops to clear up. Good news I guess.. I was also told to wear earplugs from now on with any water contact, well until it has had some really good time to recover... my guess is that any sudden increase in pressure would likely rupture the drum.. so I guess I'm just gonna have to take things slowly.

Does anyone wear earplugs when hunting.. if so which one's are good.. and whats the deal with pressurizing with ear plugs?? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim, I was in Newquay a couple of weeks ago - love those harbour seals!
Yes you can get some type of ear plugs that can be used spearfishing & one of the Dorset guys knows all about them but cant think who?
