Hey Everyone,

Does anyone wear earplugs when hunting.. if so which one's are good.. and whats the deal with pressurizing with ear plugs?? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Docs proplugs. I usually get mine from Ocean Magic in newquay but it has been a while since i last had to buy a pair. Just be sure to get the vented ones. They make equalizing must easier too! I use mine all the time for diving now. Started just before my ear op and yesterday on my dive. They let no water into the ear at all.

A Mellow past indeed . I saw them live at Exeter Uni great hall in 95. I even have an orb mug somewhererofland quite a few tapes knocking about.

Back again. Not been online for sometime now while tyring to get my ear sorted. Bad tinitus still and slightly deaf but slowly getting my hearing back! Not sure what i have missed so i will have to spend some time looking back thru the forum!

Went in for my first dive since the op today. Funny i should read about bream as i saw my first cornish bream today just past a school of mullet. They never got close enough though! I did take my camera in to try out some more stuff and it is working well when i remember to recharge the battaries! 1 Bass and 1 mullet. The camera died on the dive for the bass:head. I could have had more bass but one was head on to me and i was unsure of the size so tried to wait but he bolted! Loads of mullet but only took my usual one. Just sat at home now nursing a slightly sore ear!

These vids are my favourite thing about reading through the threads bar meeting people from them. Great video! What suit do you wear as the camo pattern seems quite good- thinking ahead to when my Elios finally gives out.

earplugs. Docplugs seem the only easily available option, but they do not compare to custom plugs. I have been using custom plugs for several years for surface watersports (unvented) but am due to meet up with the guy who makes them to discuss vented options. I think it is a bit experimental re. the venting, but I now only get infections from diving and need a solution. Let me know how you get on, and i'll let you know if i get any custom vented plugs made. I wonder if you can buthcher the doc plug vent into a custom plug mould.

Hah no i donated the mullet to my dad for dinner, we had the Bass as sushi, got to say it was a bit rubbery for my taste, but we tempura'd some and it was delicious!

Hit a local spot on the north coast today but went deeper than i have before. If i had had my gabbiano i would have had a bass and 2 or 3 5+ lb pollack instead i came home with 2 x 1.5 lb pollack, good a enough for dinner but frustrating nonetheless. Still ive found the fish ill go back and get them soon

Got in for a dive on the north coast today inbetween jobs. It looks like my ear is good to go after the op so i am looking for a full day of spearing on sat from the kayak!

The Viz was quite good at 6m+ and i was greeted by a school of small bass within the first 5 min. Shame all but 1 of the fish i saw were too small. Still, i managed to get 1 bass after watching him swim past me a few times to be sure he was on size. Not my best ever shot but it stunned him enough! I also got buzzed by a big old seal but strangly enough he didnt come back! I usually have to use one of my seal scaring tricks to get them to stay away!

Fingers crossed for the weekend.

It is also an Elios. I am due to pick up some new bottoms but gone for black this time. I spend most of my time with my backside stuck deep in the kelp so figured that the camo didn't matter as much down there!

I went in again yesterday and couldn't find the big Pollack, came home with a couple of small ones again. So many disasters in one dive, I had a bad feeling before i got in lol.

I speared a decent pollack at the start and it ripped right off the spear They are so soft arnt they!

After swimming for a while in the rip out in deeper water I look round and my bloody float has gone, I spot it heading out to sea and have a nice long swim to get it back, then an even longer swim back against the current.... (still found a few underwater stacks I wouldn't have found otherwise out there....)

As I come back to the rocks I decide its time for a rest and unload my gun, at that moment a massive shoal of bass cruise by , mocking me! I get out and cut my hand on some barnacles..... at this point I'm getting a bit pissed off lol

I finally found a bass and took a shot , miss and it swims up to me, I can see a faint white line across its head above the eyes where my spear skimmed it.... the cheeky bastard sits there about 3 ft from me watching me load my gun, and swims off just as I finish.

Oh and my mask leaked for the whole time grrrrr

Pollack was really struggling on the spear so I took the clutch off the reel and the spear fell through him leaving him on the line with nothing to really struggle against. Lucky as on inspection he was milimeters from tearing off. I am going to try and improve my head/gill targeting from now on.

Ouch! Thats got to suck the big one! When you have a bad day it's hard to know how far to push things. It always makes me laugh when the bass school around when you can't shoot, but then just as you are about ready they vanish. They are smarter than we think.

The dives were not that deep when i filmed the bass. Mostly no more that 4m but i did have one long dive at about 6-8m. I was about to come up as i was approaching 1 1/2 min but then the bass showed up so stayed down a little longer. Ended up doing a 2min dive which felt really comfy. Tis looking good for some deep diving offshore this sat. I will try to get some good footage.

Perfect. One of the reasons i use a reel.

The last time I was out I shot a fish at 10 metres at the end end of my breath. As the fish was not stoned, it darted for cover in a deep kelp bed which meant I had to tow it upthrough the kelp as it was going nuts (dive float was anchored to mark the ledge). This meant half its flank was torn, ruining the fillet. I have purchased a reel but it is taking its time to get sent...

@Gutshot - At the end of your video when your flopper falls down, always scares the hell out of me as it sends a quiver through the gun! I think a seal has snook up on me and had a close inspection!

I had a seal sneak up on me that day while i was on a dive. Scared the poop out of me as he swam past from behind! I got that on video too. I am getting a fetish for this videoing game.

Gutshot, at least its a fetish you're glad to admit to rofl! Seriously though, you are getting some decent clarity out of your camera. The vid with the orb soundtrack is really good.

Has anyone here had a bad encounter with a seal, like an attack of sorts, or stolen fish?

They do make me paranoid when I have fish on my belt (like a Pollack that's been blown apart and is trailing guts and fillet flakesrofl). I tend to unload the gun once its clear that they want to say hello. A large one near Penzance came to check us out being all cute and rolling over onto its back etc. Then it crept up to see what our fins tasted like!! Sly.
