Got off my arse and headed to a new spot way out west this morning which i've been meaning to try for a while now.Bit of a trek to get down to it but well worth it.Vis was good despite a red surface haze.Initially i was struck by the beauty of it underwater but noticed a serious lack of fish.However, after 20 minutes i noticed a bass just lazily cruising along side me taking no notice which marked an hour or so of plenty of fish.Managed three bass in the end but could have been more especially as there were some really good size mullet but whatever i shot i would have to carry all the way back up the hill so it seemed adequate.
Managed a little bit of film before my batterys ran out.

Sounds interesting. I went camping way out west a couple of months back and checked out a few spots. One involved a fair old hike to get back up again. Nice video! Good to hear croaking being use to pull those bass back in too!

It is not looking too good for offshore but i will keep and eye out for you although Neal will get a strop on if you call him nickrofl. Sat on the beach? Surf looks good at the mo!!
Nice dive today on the north coast despite the swell vis was pretty good. Flirted with alot of bass but most were too small so only took home one, got a couple of ok pollack as well.
Found a family of trigger fish and at one point all three lined up , my trigger finger twitched... 3 in one shot?! lol but they are just too friendly I couldn't do it.
Also I had stupidly forgotten my knife and had resorted to killing the fish with my car key lol the thought of trying to kill three trigger fish with a key didn't fill me with joy!

I would of pulled that trigger on those triggers
Pain in the arse leaving your knife at home, I usually hold the fish and brain them with the end of the spear or with my stringer.
I use my stringer more than my knife to dispatch fish but I like to gut them before leaving the water so a knife is handy ( that and safety of course)

I've tried Pendenis point a few times but like you say, it's a very busy spot with boats and tank divers. Also, beware of the tide race which as i learnt can be pretty strong in a good tide and can whip you out past the point in no time.
You're better off with Swanpool and Maenporth both being good safe spots.A little exploration of the area between Swanpool and the Helford is always worth it.

Had maybe a little too much time on my hands and played around with my video editing software so thought i'd post the results. All of the footage is from the 16 aug except one of the clips of me diving and also a clip of spearflap in the weed which i try to pass off as me. Well, its best not to let the truth get between you and a good story in a video! All the fish shots are mine, including the first one which is a miss, from sunday.

Well thats a sick movie.Just altogether spot on. It makes me even sicker that during stringing a bass this morning on the northcoast in some swell i failed to notice my bands come unattached from my gun (gabbiano) and sink never to be seen again
Ouch! At least you got a bass for your trouble.
Redvanrob, the kayaks do come in handy and the sounder is great. There are a few reefs i dive which never reak the surface so the gps and the sounder are needed.

My mate alexlloydthomas came down to my area the other day for his first session of the season - we had to cut it short after his knife slipped and sliced open his hand whilst he was trying to brain a mullet. We ended up in A&E instead, whilst he got stiched up. I always dispatch my fish with the stringer, as I string them, from under the chin up through the brain.
I'd have had some of those triggers too!
