Got back to one of my usual spots after work today for a session. Was a light into dark session. Very odd vis. oily would be the best description I can think of, like trying to look through water coming from a hot vent. Picked up a Bass in the light. Managed to get some bass to come in to the torch light in the dark, but the odd vis stopped me getting a shot.

Also spotted a new fish which turns out to be red mullet. Will be looking up the minimum size but any view on a sencible take size greatfully recieved.

Sounds like u had fresh water mixing with sea water that causes the funny viz, can't remember the name for it! As for size limits for red mullet I don't think there's one!

Cheers gents.

The fresh water would make sense as there seemed to be quite a bit of land run off. There was also a lot of what I guess could be an algee or something. Looked like a load of stringy slime suspended through the water. I think that was limiting the vis through the dive with the water mix making things much worse closer in where I was in the dark.

I guess the reds that I saw were about 20cm hopefully I'll spot some more larger versions some time soon as I'm sure that will aid the domestic credits.

Selling one of my spearguns a Cressi Geronimo Pro 95, its in great condition apart from the usual superficial scratches from firing, I will also chuck in a brand new set of bands although the current ones are still fine.
Looking to get £120 I purchased it from Antony at scubadivingstore in March/April this year and only selling as I have gone Carbon.

Nice to see our tax pounds being spent on such worthwhile cases.
I remember reporting a break-in to my vehicle and being told not to waste police time.
Obviously the time is being well spent preventing terrorist attacks by those neoprene clad/armed to the teeth suicide spearo squads.

I shall sleep much safer in my bed tonight. :)

I'm contemplating a morning session tomorrow on the south coast.

Anyone able to give me any pointers on what vis is like at the minute? Hope I don't sacrifice a lie in for nothing.

Hi. I'm contemplating a weight vest. Any advice on brands and good sources?
(I have found a " mares weights back pack" online that looks good value.)
Getting in in the morning for a dive. Conditions looking good.

I have the Omer weight vest bought from Apnea. Not cheap at £60 but its been great and so flexible in terms of changing the weight. It has four large pockets along the spine and one each side of the rib cage. I load them up with old watch leads from my tackle box. Its camo too so doesn't ruin my Elios patterning.

Mine is actually a deeper purplely colour which is just like kelp.

The Gilet is manufactured with Nylon jersey double lined 3mm neoprene, with elastic bindings. It is camouflage coloured on the outside and black on the inside. It features 6 weight pockets, which can carry 1 or 2kg weights. 4 pockets are positioned on the back and 2 pockets in front on the sides. These 2 pockets are accessible at any time, allowing the hunter to adjust the weight even while in the water. The hunter can carry from 2 to 12Kgs of weight.

Sat - South coast at high tide. Viz fine, and spotted what could have been my best flat fish. Drifted over it to stab it, and it scooted off :head
Small mullet, pipe fish, wrasse (nothing to shoot).

Sun - Much the same but earlier in the tide and no fish.

COLD! , that could be me done for the season. Time to soak my suit in piss off and rinse all the kit off. Its Yak fishing and surfing from now on in for me.
