Cornwall 2012

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
A quick edit I put together with the spearfishing footage I filmed this year.. (which wasn't much really as I've found that messing around with my camera can sometimes affect the way fish act.. and also you end up finding yourself more focused on filming and less on the job at hand! Leaving the camera behind has definately made me more focused on hunting.. but needless to say there were a few of dives this year I wish I'd filmed as I had some really good sized fish in 10m+ vis........ ah well.. maybe next time). :) Enjoy.

Spearfishing in Kernow 2012

One of the best spearing videos I've watched in a long while, great footage and great editing...Thanks for sharing!!

Great vid Sniper!

I showed it to a few guys in the office and now they want to get out on the water.

How much was your little rib? I think it's a worthy investment.

Excellent footage. Liked the carpet of spiders. They'll be tasty when they've grown a bit. My spearo / boating partner picked up a c ski today, we're upgrading from our Dory. Need to get an engine to put on it. I'm looking forward to next season already, although I hope there's few good dives left in this one. Loving this sport.

Did you find one locally or was it a direct import... been looking myself but unless I drive it home from SA.... rofl

It was local in the UK,its been for sale fow a while now. There is only four 440 c-ski's in the UK and four 444 c-ski's.
A guy i know just put a order in for the 560 model. Looking forward to seeing that one.

its a Quicksilver 340 Airdeck with a Mariner 15HP on the back.. its perfect for day missions.. blows up and deflates in 15mins.. rolls up and goes in the back of the van.. no trailer. I got some pimp wheels for it this year making it 100x easier to launch too (see - [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi_JB5EjffY]Foldable launching wheels for inflatable boats made of stainless steel - YouTube[/ame])

I paid £600 for the boat new.. and £1250 for the outboard new and that was about 8 years ago so you should be able to find a cheaper one now.

Hope that helps.. Jim

Love those fold up wheels Ive not seen that type before.
If you were to sell that outboard now I doubt you would lose much more than £250 on what you payed for it 8 years ago.
Because of the ban on the sale of brand new two stroke outboards for private use, prices have gone insane.

Yeah they work great.. and cos they fit so compact against the transom the boat still fold up sweet :)

I had no idea about the ban on the sale of brand new two stroke outboards for private use? When did that come about and why?

I think it was the 1st January 2007, Its not exactly a ban, its the EU changing laws to make it difficult for companies to manufacture and sell them.
I'm not completely sure of the full ins and outs on it, but here goes.
The EU set emission limits for each size of outboard motor and the two stroke models didnt pass the tests as they burn large quantities of oil.
Outboard companies could make them pass the emissions tests but they would of been very expensive to manufacture and sell, so they have decided to push the sales of 4 stroke outboards instead.
From what Ive read the bigger outboards over 40hp could possibly be sold new as the autolube feature can be adjusted to pass emisions tests but then why would they bother as the engine weight differences are not much and who wants to keep buying gallons of two stroke oil.

Interesting.. I had no idea about this! Think I'll be holding onto that engine for now then!

Im down holywell bay this fri-mon. any pointers on finding vis or clean surf with these westerlies would be greatly apritiated.

Oh well, nobody shouted me...but hey, i found vis and fish in cornwall. You guys are spoilt for choice on spots in west winds.

Only managed to get out for one sneaky dive at 7:30 am. It was a fair walk and clamber down at a rocky headland on the south coast. Dives to 12 meters mos fish at around 10. I found a nice submerged mini mountain that stood 8 meters tall in 12 meters of water, it was still covered in a fairbit of kelp.

Managed a few bass and a couple of mullet. Biggest fish was a bass just over 4lb, the smallest bass a shade over 2lb.

Good effort Lee, Nice to see the fish are still about. Afraid my season has all but ground to a halt, can't escape the DIY any longer. Any hints as to the area? (West, Mid or east?)

It was 'mid' south coast.
Not to far from this ship

Just seen the photos on the Dorset Thread, think I know where you are.
There's a wreck just tucked in near there thats managable for a good spearo.

Anyone in Kernow still spearing?
Got in yesterday, first time in a while and was pleased to see plenty of life still about.
Only in for an hour but bagged a suicidal bass and a long range mullet,
Both about 2.5lbs.
Still plenty of silver out there to be had.
