Went in yesterday at a sheltered spot near Falmouth vis was gin clear in the shallows. Had a great time look at all the life close in and trying to get used to my new suit definitely need more weight, I was struggling to stay down in 4m.

Hi mate if u go out from Falmouth there is a u-boat just 50-100m off shore pendennos point .the best entry point is from the eastern end of castle beach where there is a small car park on the cliff top and steps leading down to the water follow the reef edge on your last approx 50m out turn last and swim a further 50m or so parallel to the shore until you comrade to the first well defined gully running out at right angles to the shore here you will find the remains of the u boat if u do this on a low it's only 4-6m deep .

Quick report from saturdays foray. Had a family day on the beach enjoying the final throws of summer. My mate and I both took our inflatables with us to play around with. After playing with the kids we got the green light to disappear round the corner for a few hours, me with my speargun and my mate with rod and line. He dropped me off at a new mark and I was greeted with 15+m of viz, one of those rare days where you could justify a cannon of a gun! It was nice to find some larger pollock and dive some deeper water than I normally would. Finished the day with two nice bass, a PB pollack and a nice mullet. Biggest bass was in the region of 5-6 lbs

Delete the mullet, same mark, following weekend same result. Bass of 6lbs, one about 3 and a Pollock of 3-4.

The mark was alive with what I think were baby herring about 2" long. There were at least 4 separate shoals of thousands of them. all the fish in the area had distended stomachs from gorging on them.
Saw a monster bull huss cruising about the bottom, which was nice. Vis was ok for springs.

If I get my outboard sorted I'll take you there when you're down Ian.

Ta for that just looking for spots now on google earth! Sounds just like my last few dives up north Wales late summer now all the little fish have feed well and are looking great.the sholes of mackerel I've swam through nearly big Anough to eat ! Hope we have a Indian summer.

Anyone else hear a "pinging" in the water around Falmouth recently? Is it sonar from that big navy vessel? Not been in with spear this week but vis was 4-5, nice to just be in the water.

Hey guys, I'm back this weekend and was looking at getting in at maenporth with the winds hopefully being off shore if they stay as their predicted, however with the heavy rainfall we've had today is that likely to affect the viz greatly? Any comment would be appreciated guys. Cheers

Went for a dive yesterday, on the ebbing tide and I didn't have a very long exit pass, so wasn't feeling optimistic. In the car, I changed my mind and decided to try a different spot that I haven't dived for a few years because I never saw anything decent there. 10 minutes in the water, and I've a 7lb bass on the stringer. A new pb, and I'm totally stoked and thinking about getting out as there was no chance of topping that. I did a few more dives, going through the motions really. A little bit later, and there's a 12lb 7oz pollack on my stringer. It was a monster. At that point, I began the swim in, which was hard work against the current with added drag. I struggled up beach with gear plus 10kg of fish, and slipped anonymously in to my car, with my mind blown. I had been diving alone at a spot I've never seen anyone else at, and it is now my special little secret spot. Chances are I'll dive it for years to come and never have a day like that though.

Great catch there !well done the seasons still in full swing good catches coming in all over .You must be well made up ?. they are two fantastic fish get them up for FOM I can see sept being a cracker. that pollocks a beast bud lets have some more!

Nice one Gareth you have been long overdue a session like that, maybe I should of met up with you yesterday for a dive, theres nothing better than spearing a few torpedoes lol
I decided to stick to my local spot to see if I could find a few bass, after a good swim out I found a nice bit of reef that looked promising, within 3 or 4 dives I had a shoal of at least 100 bass swimming in but they were very skittish and didnt hang around after my first shot and missing.
So I changed tactics and within 20 minutes I found this beauty hiding in a gulley weighing in at 7lb 5oz.

Lovely looking fish there GTTC I'm made up for you .Its amazing what local little spots can produce .They are never the same ,two days in a row. can be so different .With tides flow and vis and temps.

My aims for this year are:
Bass of more than 7lb 3oz
Pollock over 4lb
any nice Plaice
Looking forward to trying some new marks.

Fingers crossed.

Have you met your aims scallywag? Just reading through this years posts as I'm down a week on Friday!

Yes to the pollock, had several bass of 6 lbs. but no PB. No plaice but to be fair I've not really chased the flatties. Had one of those day's yesterday. Vis was a bit sketchy, no fish in the shallows. Moved to deeper water and dropped in on a matched pair of donkey mullet but waited too long to take a shot and watched them bugger off in to the distance:duh. Ended up shooting a mullet and a pollock only for both of them to tear off, first fish I've lost this year.

Well I didn't manage to get down this weekend as planned as some numpty decided to crash in to me and so the car is getting fixed in the garage....to make matters worse despite admitting it was her fault at the scene and plenty of photo evidence showing it must have been her fault, she has now decided to say it was a 50:50 crash and as there were no witnesses apart from my wife (who doesn't count apparently) my insurance company are saying I have to settle for a spilt claim...I told em to bugger off and investigate it properly....grrrrrr!!!! Oh and to make it worse she is also putting in a personal injury claim too!!

Never mind - hopefully the car will get fixed soon and I can make that raid down there soon - looking at the fish taken this weekend down your way and in North Wales I missed out!

Nightmare mate! I had exactly the same happen to me about 4 years ago - they crashed into me, admitted it at the scene then claimed 50:50 responsibility. The case dragged on for over 2 years - finally settled at 60:40 in favour me - a complete joke.

Definitely fight it, for your own conscience if nothing else!

Its crap isn't it....hopefully with all the evidence including a text message from her husband which says she said it was her fault, it won't drag on that long!!

Managed to get the boat out on saturday.. dived my favourite offshore spot and a few new marks we'd heard about - finally came up trumps!

Several big fish taken 5lbs+ and there were quite a few more fish in the boat too! :)

Nice haul there Jim. When you say "offshore" how far out were you? I always classed offshore to be over 7 miles off but I know that there's no rigid definition of the tearm.

I guess I always thought anything you wouldn't shore dive out to in my book would be offshore.. in this case I think its a mile or so.

I've done a couple of boat dives this year and had my best sessions. I've still got some marks that I'd like to try from the boat before the season's out.

Hey guys, anybody around the falmouth/lizard area this weekend up for a dive? I get back from base Friday evening and am free all day Saturday.
Cheers
Ben
