Just wondered.. Never entered any of my fish into the FOM comps.. is that still going on?

The FOM was hard work to run, it became controversial with some folk regarding night caught fish, nobody was prepared to supply trophies, not enough interested staff to monitor the comp.
Those are some reasons for its demise but of course we would love to see it come back!
We would need someone who is really interested & has the time to run the copms, a sponsor & some new rules.
I am run of my feet sometimes, trying to keep everyone happy is not a 5min a day job & you don't get any thanks for your effort either.
I think that many of the previous staff just get fed up after a year or so, if anyone wants to have a go at running the copm please step forward:)

Thanks, i used to know the coast pretty well as a surfer, but it takes a different perspective when looking for spearo spots :)
If anyone can tell me what the tides can be like...? is there much of a run on a big spring tide?

Hello everyone, am new to the forum and equally open minded, can take your banter no problem and seriously though am looking forward to chatting to like minded Aqua-Sapiens. I was a BSAC diver for 13 years and surfed for about the same, learnt to spearfish last week and really love it, it truly is you versus fish, I have no idea why some divers I hear take a negative stance to Spearos? I think we learnt to hold our breath before Scuba came along? "Hunter Gatherer" anyhow I'm writing this sat at Perranporth with a glass of cold white obvious and wondering where I could try my luck tmow? be great to hear from anyone with any advice, I respect secret spots if they exist amongst Spearos? any how's I'm a rambling on, out for now amigos.

Welcome to our world domw !.Look ,take pictures ,you have probably have done allready ,take what you can eat ,you are in a good spot !keep us all updated .

Welcome to the forum, would you like to run the FOM?
No, banter aside, you are very welcome :) I have also got a BSAC but that was 35 years ago never used a aqualung since!

Went in this evening at the same spot as before and spotted a decent bass early on, but i got too excited and it swam away, but a bit later on, another bass (or the same one?) came up behind me and i managed to turn without spooking it and hit it right in the flank as it turned! It was 4lb again, like the previous one and tasted great (again).

Heading to Cornwall from North Devon for the day on Wednesday with the girlfriend and she wants to come spearfishing for the first time!! No decisions on where to go yet so where would be best for vis, North or South coast? I am guessing south coast...if anyone has got any rough spots we could try that would be likely to produce some fish that would be brilliant as if I can her to catch a fish I'll be able to go more!! PM me if that's better, any advice would be much appreciated.

Had a good day on Sunday on the south coast, finished with 2 golden greys 42 and 44cm, a thick lipped at 46cm, bass at 44cm and a flounder of 48cm. Missed a couple of golden greys when trying to line up a multi-bag shot. My bad. Had a tete-a-tete with a nice 50+cm bass, could have pulled the trigger and reloaded in all the time I had the shot but was busy enjoying his menacing profile as he sat motionless staring down the barrel. By the time I decided to shoot he was already on his way, and that's why we go back for more. Nice BBQ on the beach Monday evening to eat the catch, most enjoyed by all. Off to Norway for 2 weeks at the weekend, hope some big bass will be lurking on return. I expect we'll have them in plentiful numbers through September if this warm water lasts. Cheers folks
