I am pretty sure you will be ok it is 12 acres.
Lets just hope its not raining!

Yeah fingers crossed, it's been raining pretty much constantly here in Plymouth for the last three weeks, getting a bit tired of it now and the pea-soup sea.

The last two weekends have been lovely over here but we have had rain all day today.
vis has been generally good though...

Them pre put up tents look handy I might go for one of them if there are any left !

Hi everyone.

It is important that each person that is coming registers individually so we can plan numbers accordingly. It is also important to select what events over the weekend you'd like to join in on again to make sure we can plan numbers.

For those that have registered we'll be in touch to confirm your choices along with current timetable this week.

Cheers!

Also - just to mention that one of the reasons we ask for registration is to ensure there are enough places on each activity during the weekend. If you don't register and then turn up you run the risk of no being able to participate in everything you'd like to.

Cheers!

Hi Martyn,

Plan C seems good to me!

I like your idea of a side bet, we should have several! maybe decide what to bet on the day?

Re fish limit, since there is no heaviest bag aspect (apart from a tie break) will this now serve a useful purpose? A couple of points that made me think about this again.

1) As it stands for either the specimen challenge,or the biggest Bass, Mullet and Flattie, divers need only weigh in only one fish of each species (their biggest). So divers have no incentive to come out with big hauls of the same species of fish, as there is absolutely no point in catching another of a species unless it is bigger than than the first, or, the diver would like it for their own consumption(inc family and friends).

2) Also, what happens when a diver has had three fish of either bass, mullet or flattie or even 3 lobsters for that matter , and then spots a bigger one? Can't see many ignoring that big bass, can u? Whilst u might be able to throw the smallest lobster back, , we don't want people to think they have to dump their smallest bass!

So, perhaps the ethics behind the "fish in" could be explained in the pre dive brief, and then leave the numbers of fish/crustacea of each species taken by a diver, to that divers discretion?

cheers

mike

OK Mike we are getting there but these things are definitely worth discussing.

You do speak some logic, although, if everybody was fishing purely for the highest number of specimens (specimen hunt) then things would be far more simple.

However, I know some folk need time to adjust to the idea of not shooting the biggest fish so we are having some prizes for the biggest bass mullet & flatfish.

My reason for limiting numbers of the same species landed is far more geared toward public relations!

I just did not fancy the public witnessing several divers landing 6-7 bass a piece as this could easily spell the end of our 'presently peaceful relations' with the locale rod fisherman & uninformed locale conservationist.

I can see that this time around we are not going to get it completely right, so some aspects of the rules might not appeal to every one.
This situation will be a great opportunity for us to discuss and plan for future events of this nature (specimen hunting).
So plan C is acceptable but needs fine tuning....
Lets set some min weights for the suggested fish ....

Bass. 2.5lb
Flatfish 1.5lb
Bream 1.0
Gurnard 1.0
Mullet 2.5
Pollock 2.0
Mackerel 8oz
Excluding wrasse & conger but including lobster 1.5lb scallops & crabs 2lb

Anyone want to add or suggest fish please do so.....

Hi mart how many of us is there camping in your garden and a big thank you for that :thankyou. Is anyone else not going to herm on sat?

Just you and misterlizard - I didn't really want my garden turning into a campsite but a couple of small tents are OK.
Like I have said, there is plenty of room in the camp site just down the road if anyone else wants to camp.

REF Herm - this is a bit of a bugbear for me as I just cant figure who is coming until every one signs the register!
I have booked for 20 but I have to confirm the numbers very soon & it looks like we have more than 20?
The numbers also define the cost too, so I want to get this sorted ASAP.

I am going to set a final date of Sunday 8th July to register for the event. Should you register after that time there is no guarantee that you can join all activities.

can't seem to edit post so.....

.

Mart as numbers are an issue and for other reasons i will say that i wont make it for the Herm dinner. thanks.

The weekend sounds like it will be fun and i do look forward to meeting the visiting spearos

Numbers are not a issue in that way Jonny.
Herm BBQ area can take 250 people but, the admin needs to know how many of us will be sitting together for the seating & the numbers also dictate the cost.
Anyway, as Stephan has said the dead line will be the 8th.

Jonny - as Mart said numbers aren't an issue just tying down a total in a reasonable time frame. Be a shame not to see you on the Sat night!
