Competition rules
Specimen hunt

The objective is to catch as many species as possible from a specified list of fish species. There will be two competition days - August the 4th & 5th.

The overall winner will be the diver who catches the most number of individual species over the two days.**

1. All divers must sign the registration form before the competition starts & sign out before the weigh in.*

2. We request that no competitor dives the venue in the 48 hours prior to the competition

3. All divers enter the competitions and dive entirely at their own risk. There are no safety boats provided

4. Competitors must use a surface marker buoy and remain within 25m of that marker at all times. Competitors may use a floatation aid such as dive board.

5. Each diver will sign a disclaimer stating that they are aware of the rules and are taking part at entirely their own risk.

6. There will be a limit of three fish of any of the specified species per diver per day.

7. Any diver who has signed on & but not signed out within 30 minutes after the designated weigh in time, will cause the emergency services to be alerted on their behalf. *

8. Competitors will only be allowed to dive the designated venue and must remain within the designated dive area (a briefing detailing the dive boundaries will be given on the day)

9. All Competitors must enter and exit the competition by foot. The use of boats or any other form of vehicular transport is not permitted. During the competition, a diver may enter and leave the water as many times as they wish.

10. For safety reasons, divers are recommended not to string fish on their waist. They should attach the fish to their SMB.

11. A diver may only weigh in fish that they have caught, and only fish presented to the dive coordinators at the official weigh-in will be eligible for the competition

12. All Competitors will be responsible for their own catch. Divers must be aware that their general conduct and treatment of their catch will reflect upon other divers and may also affect how the sport of is perceived by the general public It is therefore imperative that all divers behave responsibly and ensure that all fish caught are dealt with humanely and appropriately at all times.

Thanks guys Mart.

Any guys arriving on Thursday the 2nd - you can find us in Christies - Welcome to Christies, Guernsey's premier bistro, bar and restaurant! around 815pm :wave

The 5 day weather forecast shows strong SW wind with occasional showers & sunny intervals!
I feel this might jeopardise the chosen dive spots - not to worry to much as being a small island there is always a sheltered coast.
Today we have 17mph SW wind but the east coast is flat, still we all know what the weather forecast is like especially with such a small target like guernsey, there is time for the wind to change direction....

We did not want to put an emphasis on prizes for the spearfishing competitions however db would like to show our appreciation towards Apnea in Jersey Apnea Online Store for their very generous contributions of £100 voucher for the overall winner who catches the highest number of different species.
£50 for the best flatfish & £25 for the best mullet.
We would like to suggest a kitty of £5 per person for the best Bass.
Of course the overall winner will get their name on the db Guernsey trophy too...
Also dont forget db will be sponsoring the Herm Night by paying for your food, we will also be partly sponsoring a lobster meal on the Sunday...
There are also free T Shirts & bags... be here or be there!

First impressive menus, then impressive prizes, then freebies! That's just rubbing it in :(

I'm very excited about this weekend, can't wait!

Any chance of an updated finalised official rubber-stamped itinerary?

Oops, sorry, just realised that you posted that a few posts ago.

How about the timings for the Herm trip? Do you know which ferries we'll get there and back?

Yes I do mate (although they have been posted already :wave)
Ferry to Herm is the issue because it leaves at 7pm so we need to be on the ball straight after the first day comp (you will be Ok because I will be driving you).
There are no other boats, only the return boat at 1045pm.
When we get back to st peter port it will be a free for all as to what you decide to do....
Night club or good night!

Really looking forward to this trip! Got a bit of practice in last week on Anglesey and can report that the closest I will get to that trophy is an envious glance as its handed to the winner!!
See you all thu/fri
Si

I dont know who is coming over early, but if anyone wants to meet either for a dive for otherwise then i'm around most of this week...
